Always wanted a cheap PPC card?
The latest sonnet library (17.10) now also supports the Killer NIC M1 card.
Some benchmarks of the Killer NIC M1 running WarpOS stuff: GPMark: Code:
CSPPC BPPC Sonnet PrPMC800 Killer NIC Code:
Demo Sonnet 500MHz G3 PrPMC 450MHz G4 Killer NIC 400MHz a = not enough memory |

Yeah Sonnet PCI cards are several hundred dollars on eBay, I think you can drop the "cheap" out of your title :D

the card above is a DELL OEM part and sold for pocket change |
I believe that I would like to imagine that this will boot BeOS, if I get two does it work with multiprocessor support in BeOS? Because if it doesn't, no deal.
|
Now then it becomes interesting again, when also BeOS will run!
|
Great work guys! Ppc cards for the masses! :)
|
Well I'll be damned! That IS cool! Does it have it's own RAM? If not what's the speed like? Can it still use the USB and network function?

If someone writes Amiga drivers for the USB and Network part, why not. |
Is there a link with a list of the compatible cards? Just I'm not sure what card I should be looking for.

Do these cards give any benefit to general performance in wb 3.9?
I've never had a PPC card, so I don't know the pros and cons. |
You can offload decoding of datatypes to the PPC, and a few other things here and there, but most of the benefit comes when you use programs dedicatedly written for WarpOS. For example video playback etc.
|
so its confirmed that the k1 cards do in fact work?
|
I would recommend reading the sonnet thread to get a good understanding of quite what works and what doesn’t, and to what extent. Plus a read of the wiki would be worthwhile

Although I long ago gave up the Sonnet route I'm still following just of of interest. Some naive and probably stupid idea, but since for these PCI-E cards we need a (PCI) adapter anyway, would it make sense to work on an Amiga CPU slot to PCI-E adapter instead of putting it in a PCI slot?
Mmm, would that even work without a 68k CPU, which you would then need on the mainboard. |
