SPAM alert

http://eab.abime.net/member.php?u=5874 in visitor messages.

I always thought EAB was very well spam-protected by now, but seems they found another hole to squeeze through their ad crap...

prowler 11 March 2010 02:12

Thanks for the alert, andreas. Well spotted! :great

I've deleted that message.

Everybody please follow andreas' example and report anything similar for the moderators to deal with.

Thanks.

Graham Humphrey 11 March 2010 10:44

Thanks andreas, well spotted - 'member' now banned :)

We've had quite a lot of spammers again recently but a lot of them are caught at signing-up stage (dodgy signatures and websites are a dead giveaway). May I remind everybody to never reply to spammers and use the report button whether that's a forum post or a visitor message. We always deal with them as a priority.

humble worm 11 March 2010 17:52

I just checked members list, the letter "J". Seems like about 1 per 10 users is a spambot, well maybe its not very accurate but there are many of them... just as if it was hot summer ;)

andreas 11 March 2010 21:05

I suggest DELETING them instead of banning.

You'd ban human users who you see a chance that they might behave after the banning period, but this makes no sense for these automated pseudo-users, apparently using random "nicknames." probably created by vicious scripting code.

For what I can see, they only post their crap ONCE and the second time, they are in with another script-generated nickname. So you do not have to be afraid of them ever "reusing" their pseudo-nick to do their mischief again.

DH 11 March 2010 21:07

I'm searching through all 0 posting members since Jan 1st 2010 to today (11 pages worth) and hell, there are a flippin' load of them. All will be added into the Mods forum as spam and promptly deleted...

Please keep your eyes open guys, the more help the more we can eliminate :)

andreas 11 March 2010 21:19

Yes, do delete it. Avoid to have the database get cluttered even more with stuff like that...

DH 11 March 2010 22:13

A total of 253 0 posting spam members have been reported out of a total of 402. It's up to the GM's now to permanently ban and remove them.

prowler 11 March 2010 22:27

Great job, DH! :great

Graham Humphrey 11 March 2010 23:27

Yeah luckily I have a spare lifetime to use up so I'll get round to doing all that now... ;)

Seriously, great work and patience digging all that up DH!

DH 11 March 2010 23:38

Thanks chaps :)

Well, someone really should think about digging around at least once a week to prevent the build up. In the long run, it'll save time and effort.

andreas 12 March 2010 01:20
