First Beta (v0.1) of GBPlayer by AAG released

A first beta version of GBPlayer, a new customizable UI for (and based on) the GameBase emulator frontend has been released a few days ago.

GBPlayer is developed by our fellow amigan AAG and is an independent project unrelated to the (slowly :p) ongoing MAGE development efforts. It is an interesting project nonetheless and if you use GameBase Amiga and feel adventurous (remember it is still beta) and/or are really annoyed with some of GameBase's limitations, you are encouraged to give it a go.

Feel free to give feedback in this thread and/or create new threads in EAB's project.MAGE forum about this project, but please make sure to clearly state that you are talking about GBPlayer.

Find it and more information at the GBPlayer Homepage.

Thanks eLowar for posting the news.

Just in case it's not clear from the homepage, GBPlayer will not trash your existing Gamebase installation! It's a completely separate exe/dll (which happens to use the same paths as Gamebase).

Installation :- just a case of copying a few files to the right dir and running a batch file. Uninstall :- run a batch file and delete the files - no harm done.

There's no additional VB runtime, .NET framework or c++ runtimes needed.

Also, Belgarath has done some initial testing and found no problems.

Thanks

AAG

This is indeed an uncomplicated install. Looks promising, the Profile Editor is nice. :)

Hi

Not tried it yet, but this app looks nice! :)

I've got hold of the GBv1.2 source code now so I'll upload it to sourceforge sometime in the next couple of days.

GBPlayer 0.5 released

Hi

GBPlayer version 0.5 is now available from http://gbplayer.xiik.net/ - much later than l had planned/hoped for.

(This version is really what the initial release should have been).

The first screenshot from the GBPlayer website really sums up what this new UI to Gamebase is all about.

Main features
  • Should now support any gamebase database - including c64.
  • Multi-column selection, in order of preference, and ability to save/database.
  • Plugins - For GB Amiga, "Hall Of Light" and "Lemon Amiga" websites are searched for the currently selected game.
  • Background images no longer have to be tiled.
The docs on the website have ben updated.

Enjoy!

Feedback welcome - as well as any decent looking "profiles"!

Looks good! I'll try and find the time to update www.bu22.com with the news.

Are these lookup plugins packed into a zip file or other for download as a whole. This way your ui could use them from a named folder, where it is needed to be.

You ask what other packs could be used how about, Killergorilla's WHD packs.

After discussions with the various database authors, it was decided to that the web-lookup plugs would be kept separate, and downloadable individually. That way you can choose which plugins to use - or not as the case maybe.

Each lookup plugin zip file contains a single dll. You just need to copy that dll into the relavent ".\Gamebase\GBPlayer\"database name", eg

c:\Program Files\Gamebase\GBPlayer\Gamebase Amiga\

Sorry - that's really confused me! I did ask for some "profiles" (or another word would be themes) - ie a collection of background image, font and colours.

Hope this helps?

Am I missing something ?

Greetings,
I have been trying to use GBPlayer with my installation of Gamebase, but I have no success getting the screenshots / Music / extras / games to work.
When I launch GBPlayer, I can launch all the gamebases, but aside from the data (game, publishers,notes,...) nothing.
I am sure this is something pretty obvious, but after so many tries, I just need help...
Thanks for any that can be provided,

Loic
