AmigaOS XL
I am considering buying amigaos xl but i'd like some feedback from people who have it
1: is it really worth the money? 2: what vdo you think about the compatibility? 3: What kind of documentation is sent with it? 4: are they supporting it ok? |

installation
Will I be able to install the QNX OS to a directory or something or do I need to set up a separate partition for it?
I I can install it to a separate directory or to a separate partition, will it create a menu where I will be able to choose which OS should be used? (XP or QNX?) |

AmigaXL is a complete waste of space (unless you're already running QNX of course). It's got
only two new features: - You can start QNX applications from your emulated Workbench desktop - Transparent Virtual Memory Is that worth 150 EUR ? I doubt it... Additionally, WinUAE (or LinuxUAE) are much more frequently updated and there are a lot more guys using it (guys that can help out if you encounter problems). As RetroMan already pointed out, Amithlon is completely useless for Retro-gaming, it doesn't emulate the custom chips at all - in other words: no commercial pre-1998 game will run on it. I'd recommend to download Win/LinuxUAE (not much slower than Amithlon) and buy OS 3.9 (or download AIAB). Very compatible, very fast (on fast machines :) and very cheap (compared to AmigaOS XL). If you're not interested in Retro-gaming, I'd recommend Amithlon. They *do* support their product (not the publisher, but the authors themself, see http://www.amithlon.net). It's very fast and it's the only solution allowing easy Internet/network access, burning CD's, 3D accelleration etc. |
