amiga 68k emulator

hi all

i am running amithlon on a p3 733 with 128mb ram, it is running fantastic but to use games i have to install uae, i have just put on e-uae_0.8.29-wip4 and have put in kick31.rom to get it started, when i load a game it lags alot is there a way of getting it to run faster and smoother, even while uae is running i still have 7mb system ram and 50mb other ram free so im hardly running out of ram.

also i want to add some directories to use as hard drives and have sound enabled on the hard drive, can someone tell me how to setup the .uaerc to do this.

thanks for your help Peter.

You need a faster processor ;)

Try selecting low-res from the options. Dont use Cycle accurate 68000.

I would suggest using WinUAE 0.8.8R9, or Fellow, all of which are much faster than recent WinUAE versions.

@Minuous: Always a pleasure to read your well-grounded comments, but you could have at least read what petee1979 is talking about. He's running Amithlon! No WinUAE on that system, unfortunately...

Minuous 21 June 2008 20:24

I assume he has Windows on that box though...if it can run Amithlon, it can probably run Windows, yes? So this would surely be faster than running an emulator through an emulator.

Another Amithlon convert :)
Your best bet is to:
-Run the oldest version of 68k UAE you can find.
(compatibility will suffer)
-And stay well away from AGA.
(ooo, I'm a poet & I didn't know it)
(see what I did there?)
-Frame skip is also your friend.

Sad to say, though I bet Amithlon runs great on your system, you'll likely need a few more horses to get the best out of 68k UAE.
Time to "pony" up a little more dough?
(a-hem)

PS
I hope none-the-less you're finding Amithlon + UAE an interesting combination...
. . . with a bit of care you can pull some interesting tricks by pointing UAE's HDD emulation @ your own sys: partition.
(some care IS required)

Overclock the computer to MAX... put the computer in a thick, whaterproof plastic bag, then put the bag in ice cold water with ice in it.. refill with new ice every hour......

Charlie 22 June 2008 17:19

Nah!
Put the mobo in a mini-fridge with a lot of those little dessicating sachets you get in various boxes, spray the mobo in WD40, drill holes for the cables, seal it all up...

...then put the lot in a thick, whaterproof plastic bag, then put the bag in ice cold water with ice in it.. refill with new ice every hour......

:D

Welcome to the EAB petee1979, if it's not been said already, there's pleny to do here - I hope you enjoy your stay.

Thought about that way too, but then condensing.. uhm, thingy could appear on the hardware and shortcircuit it all.. not good!!...

Computers don't like to be moist/wet, I learned that once.... if you know what I mean ;)

:laughing

um moist wet computers now that sounds like hardware for my pond

@petee1979

I had the same problem and I decided to use a dual boot system.
I use Amithlon for my internet and x-amiga for the games.
You still need some kind of system to be able to boot Amithlon so what's better then a minilinux that would run e-uae as well? :)
It could be fiddling at start but once you have it running then its fast, very small footprint etc.
just a suggestion there.
