adf´s not in TOSEC - What to do?

Hi Guys,

roaming through my collection and matching against the TOSEC dats (using "TOSEC - DAT Pack - Complete (2292) (TOSEC-v2014-10-31)" there are some adf´s that are not recognized. Some of them are already renamed, some not. There are some doubles (regarding sha1) but with different names. Romvault or clrmame are not able to sort this out because of no matching entrys in TOSEC dat files. There are also some irritating things like this:
Code:

da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feud (1987)(Bulldog)[a2].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feud (1987)(Bulldog)[a].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feud (1987)(Bulldog)[cr Secret Copy Team].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feud (1987)(Bulldog)[v SCA].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feudal Lords (1990)(Impressions).adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feudal Lords (1990)(Impressions)[cr Defjam].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feudal Lords (1990)(Impressions)[cr Defjam][a2].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Feudal Lords (1990)(Impressions)[cr Defjam][a].adf
da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709  Fever v1.1 (19xx)(Black Dragon)[unfinished game][AMOS].ad

What can i do with my disks? I wanted to clean my "incoming" folder but there are now those leftover disks. Are there any other dats that i can use? Maybe i have to use older TOSEC dats?
I already created a list as txt with sha1 + adf name which i can provide if needed.

thanks for your help or tips what to do :)

best regards
profo

have you checked the content of those disks or just the name? As same SHA-1 means exactly same disk. That hash is big enough to not end up with doubles as in crc.
I recommend you check the actual content of your disks.

Hi Thalion,
no i didnt had the time. Checking everything manually is the next Step. Would have been convenient if a Manager could sort it.

I recommend to try DMS-Workshop!

It can recognize each TOSEC disk and a lot of nonTOSEC disks too(external database), furthermore it has track identification ability.

would be nice if DMS-Workshop could rename automatically the names......

Does it work only for .dms images (hence its name :)) or for .adf images too?

This is a recurring problem but normally we solve these issues quickly :agree

dlfrsilver 14 April 2015 18:29

some games are only there as "[aX]" because somebody has saved on the disk, or because the disk has a virus on it.....

There was real duplicates with different names (with mai, we fight against this problem), [ax] are not a problem, but there are also external databases that give many names to the same disk, but mostly it does not support HD disks, the ADF extended format and IPF, so a partial renamer is parciellement interesting ... and I say nothing about the CD.

ah ok, i was not aware of this, thanks for this information ;)
