1084 SCART cable input cable pinout
 

Well I finally figured this one out and what I was doing wrong all along!

Here is the pinout for connecting a SCART RGB input to a 1084:

I searched for this online a million times but I never found the exact thing I wanted. I was told what to do, but I still wasn't figuring it out, and no pinout was available. So enjoy that one.

My problem was the Composite Sync cable, normally when you build a cable, you connect to pin 20, that's fine when you are outputting, but for the input, you need pin 19. What a stupid error :banghead:banghead

You can either wire directly to a female SCART lead, but I didn't find any so what I did is I used any male SCART lead I had and bought a gender changer like this:

Tested with my SNES, and it looked beautiful.

No excuse now not to connect all your RGB thingies to your 1084!

I'm having an issue with trying to display an Amiga with this though. I have an Amiga DB23 to SCART cable that works just fine on my TV, but when I connect it to this adapter, I get this:

Even when the Amiga is off, there is a LOT of noise on the screen.

Any ideas what could be happening ? All my other SCART RGB consoles work just fine.
I don't know who made the cable. I bought it off ebay years ago.

Maybe this cable is not wired for Composite Sync and is using Composite Video instead for sync? That's the only thing I didn't check, but could be an easy fix.

The resistors won't be the problem as the 1084 will already be in RGB mode (and doesn't have the corresponding control inputs anyway).

Check that all your grounds are connected properly in case that particular combination of cables doesn't provide a ground or shield or something. Also, the composite sync is the composite video line, so that should be ok - you're getting a picture in the correct place on the screen so it must be connected.

There's a resistor on the composite/sync wire.

My 1084s has a DIN RGB input, the power switch is dead so I bypassed it many years ago (probably a good idea to check that before I plug it in...) and the one of speakers is mainly dead cos the moron I lent it to plugged composite into the audio phono... it's colour coded for christs sake...

The resistor is there for bringing it in line with SCART specs and isn't required on the 1084's RGB input. Still, it might be worth checking out if bypassing it makes a difference I guess. I just can't see it myself, but it's a long time since I had a 1084 to play with so I could be wrong.

Yeah there's a bunch of resistors on that cable that I was wondering about. There's 3 of them. One might be connected to SYNC but not sure.

Unsure about the grounds, I think I MIGHT have forgotten to wire one of them together. So that might be it!

Just guessing myself, today is the first day I've played with Amiga to SCART for a long time... just fixing a broken lead I have while I wait for my CD32 riser with 23pin RGB :D Well that was the idea... now I have a working RGB SCART and a floor full of A500 and floppy disks... :D

What are you trying to connect to the 1084 to test?
IS it the exact same 1084 as mine? Some have different pinouts (and a DIN connector, not Dsub)

if all you have is a scart socket wired to a db9 plug to the monitor its still pin 20 on the scart socket how else would sync get through
plus you dont have all the grounds connected together sync ground for instance

I tried this, and this was my mistake.
The cable is working wired as shown, and was displaying nothing wired with pin 7 to 20.
I didn't try grounding sync, should see if that helps with the Amiga display.

if your connecting direct to the monitor,its pin 20 if its just the cable from machine to monitor through this adaptor directly
no idea how your getting anything through 19 you wouldnt have sync connected

Well I am thoroughly confused, as I Said, I wired it as above, and it's working.

What I made though, maybe this is why, is an adapter. I connect a SCART RGB cablefrom teh console to my cable which has a female socket. Does that make sense?

So it;s like

1084 <--> my adapter with female SCART <--> male SCART RGB cable from console/computer
