"Screech!! v2.41" & "Screech!! [AGA] v2.51" - "HD install" --> "ADFs"

Heya guys,

My next project is now complete ;)

I've created bootable .ADFs from the HD install files found on Andrew's website: http://users.on.net/~aheap

Screech!! v2.41:

- Use an "ECS / KS 3.1 / 2MB Chip & 1MB Slow RAM" configuration.

http://i66.tinypic.com/vy2nsw.png

Screech!! AGA v2.51:

- Use a "Quickstart A1200 configuration with at least 2MB Chip & 1MB Fast RAM", though I just use a "2MB Chip & 4MB Fast RAM configuration"...

Files now in The Zone! and also on the EAB file server under the directory "~Uploads/DamienD/HD INSTALL --> ADFS" :agree

Hopefully WinUAE / GameBase Amiga / Gotek / Amiga users without hard drives will appreciated this.

Enjoy :great

Thanks again, DamienD!

DamienD 05 July 2016 15:42

No problem at all PortuguesePilot ;)

If you wouldn't mind, could you please test both .ADFs using your real Amiga (with Gotek) and let me know if all is good?

Nope; I guess because it's a PD game and nobody has had the chance to create the entries / information / screenshots etc. as yet...

Download the .ADFs I created; or alternatively install to HD using the files from Andrew's website (link is in the 1st post). It's worth playing ;)

I saw a youtube video now, not 100% sure about it, but I'll give it a try at some point , thanks Damien!

yeah i mentioned liking these type of games in another thread. some of the games you mention are great fun. also the micro machines series was a blast. i played micro machines to death on the megadrive back in the day. i've never tried it on the amiga though.
edit - thinking about it the games in this category display the whole track on the screen and micro machines despite being a top down racer is different because you don't see the entire track from an overhead view. i seem to like all top down racers anyhow.

Both the ECS and the AGA versions work on my real A1200
(Rev.1D4) with a HxC Gotek drive.

Haven't tested the ECS version on the A500 with a Cortex Gotek because mine has Kickstart 1.3 and is OCS.

DamienD 05 July 2016 19:14

Sorry guys; when I uploaded the files previously I didn't name them correctly :banghead

...all fixed now; nothing else has changed just the names of the .ADFs / .ZIPs.

Awesome; thank you kindly my friend :great

I think this game was never complete and these are just demo versions right?

Not that I'm aware of. The files I've used to create both .ADFs are from the Hard Drive install files located on the author's website (Andrew Heap) and are the latest available :agree

See here, as mentioned in the 1st post: http://users.on.net/~aheap

Yes, he mentions in both files on the title screen text that there were plans to add more features / tracks etc. but...

Unlike the only version available in TOSEC i.e: "\Games\Public Domain - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2015-12-28_CM)\Screech v2.25 (demo-playable) (19xx)(Insane Software - 17-Bit Software)[KS2.0].adf"; these versions have more levels and don't run with the only option being "Opponents: demo"...

...so I guess it's the best available :great

I noticed after Akira's post :)

DamienD 07 July 2016 20:20

Given the discussion here in the "TOSEC Amiga Correction Thread" thread:

... http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...postcount=2067
... http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...postcount=2068
... http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...postcount=2069
... http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...postcount=2070

I've now updated these to be named:

... Screech v2.41 (19xx)(Insane Software - 17-Bit Software)[KS2.0].adf
... Screech v2.51 (19xx)(Insane Software - 17-Bit Software)(AGA).adf

Updated files now in The Zone! and also on the EAB file server under the directory "~Uploads/DamienD/HD INSTALL --> ADFS" :agree

DamienD 07 July 2016 23:31

Oh, I should mention that there's a later "patch" available for the AGA version on Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/game/patch/Screech2_52Pch

The "Screech2_52Pch.readme" says the following:

Quote:

Short: Screech AGA PATCH please read: important for ECS!
Author: screech@yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au
Uploader: screech yallara cs rmit edu au
Type: game/patch
Architecture: m68k-amigaos

This uploads is for AGA users who are having problems with SCREECH
running slow, this version has some optimisations that make it run at
a faster rate (Will not run any faster on machines that can handle V2.51).

IF ECS users are wanting a patch done for V2.41 then EMAIL me, I will
at the least know that there is still some interest in it.

I am sorry to those who have been expecting more updates to the game
but due to a lack of an artist I can not complete the game. If you
want to gfx for the AGA or the ECS versions of SOL then EMAIL ME.
I still need someone to finish the GFX for track 4.

Andrew H.

Insane Software
...I didn't apply this patch though as thought there was no need (plus Andrew doesn't mention / host this on his website).

InsaneSoftware 19 July 2016 14:22

I cant recall what I did here on this, its been nearly 20 years :( I think I did make some minor changes back then. As mentioned in other thread, I will release the code if I can get the Amiga fired up. And the other 2 tracks that are partial completes.

InsaneSoftwareA 02 June 2017 11:29

Hopefully will supply version 2.57 soon.

DamienD 02 June 2017 11:57

:great
