Amiga Format - Coverdisk hunt

Here's the list of missing Amiga Format coverdisks :
Code:

Amiga Format #106 (Disk 2 of 2) - af106b
Amiga Format #107 (Disk 1 of 2) - af107a
Amiga Format #108 - #109 (all disks)
Amiga Format #110 (Disk 1 of 2) - af110a
Amiga Format #111 - #116 (all disks)
Amiga Format #118 (Disk 2 of 2) - af118b
Amiga Format #119 - #121 (all disks)
Amiga Format #122 (Disk 1 of 2) - af122a

Compared to the newest TOSEC set (and added with the various contributions in this thread) :)
The last bit is the name the disk will mostly likely have.

Peter 14 August 2010 11:05

These are missing from AMR and I guess the EAB Server ?

TCD - question - can you generate missing disk lists for CU Amiga and maybe other mags as well... the reason I ask is maybe we could start a thread that highlights the missing disks and we could try to try to encourage people here to upload if they have them...

If people see a list they are more likely to help rather than having to search the Server and AMR themselves...

TCD 14 August 2010 11:13

I could... but honestly that's a quite easy task and I'm a tad short on time. Okay, I'll give you (and every one else) a quick 'how to'.

1. Download the latest TOSEC dats : http://www.tosecdev.org/index.php/do.../10-2009-12-27
2. Extract 'Commodore Amiga - Coverdisks - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-09-01_CM).dat'
3. Open the file with a text editor/viewer
4. Go to http://amr.abime.net/ and select the magazine you would like to list missing disks for
5. Click on 'Coverdisk Index'
6. Check ;)

You can also use the filenames if you have the latest TOSEC set on your HD instead of the dat.

Peter 14 August 2010 14:06

Thanks TCD - a lot of these things we discuss I've no experience of so your guidance is appreciated...

So just to clarify, cross reference these two lists... - if a cover disk description appears on the Tosec Dat file listing we have that cover disk on the EAB server but it might not be on AMR...

If that is correct then I guess it would be a job for AMR people to get stuff from the EAB server they need and transfer it to AMR.

All want to do at this stage is go throught my cover disks to identify if I have any that are missing from either the server or AMR.

I will check the lists and make my own small list of what I think I have that is missing - I'll do that first and then come back to you to discuss the next step if that's OK - it will only be a very small number of disks I think but rather than have them just sitting in a box I may as well scan them and upload them if they are needed...

Hope this make sense... :)

Yep. Those are in TOSEC and thus on the file server (in a bit, more about that tomorrow ;)). You also might even want to check the specific coverdisk folders on the file server if there isn't some stuff that's missing from TOSEC.

At last bit is the name the disk will mostly likely have on your CD ;)

Thanks, TCD! :bowdown Added to my To Do list. :great

TCD 14 August 2010 23:45

You're welcome prowler :) Hope you find some of those in your collection :great

MethodGit 15 August 2010 00:27

Don't forget to check Nth Dimension and Amiga Coverdisks to ensure that they don't already have anything reported missing in the TOSEC. ;)

prowler 15 August 2010 00:35

Hi TCD,

I'm uploading to the Zone an archive containing the following missing AF coverdisk images I found on David Grantham's CD:

AF054b (extended)
AF059a
AF063b (extended)
AF066b (extended)
AF072b (extended)
AF074b
AF077a & AF077b
AF078a & AF078b
AF079a & AF079b
AF080a
AF081a & AF081b
AF082a & AF082b
AF083a & AF083b
AF084a
AF086a1 & AF086a2 <-- These are two different disks labelled AF86a
AF088a & AF088b
AF089a & AF089b
AF090a (extended) & AF090b

I'll see if I have any of the others in my physical disks collection.

TCD 15 August 2010 00:37

Yes :D Nice one prowler :great

prowler 15 August 2010 00:41

Okay, the archive's up (19.4MB)! :great

TCD 15 August 2010 00:58

And added to the file server :great
I might give them 'proper' names tomorrow or at least during the next week :)

I am receiving PMs requesting a list of the files on this Coverdisks CD.

Attached here, FYI, is a bare directory list. Extended ADFs are indicated thus (*).

Peter 15 August 2010 01:24

What's David Granthams CD?

prowler 15 August 2010 01:28

This post has all the details.

I visited David Grantham and collected everything when it began to look like most of his collection would end up in the recycling bin.

TCD 15 August 2010 01:37

Just renamed the non TOSEC disks that are in 'Collection/Coverdisk/Amiga Format' on the file server so that they (kinda) fit in the list. There are another few available as DMS images :)

For example :
Amiga Format #085a.DMS
Amiga Format #085b.DMS
Amiga Format #086b.DMS
Amiga Format #087a - Type Smith 2-5.DMS
Amiga Format #087b.DMS

Peter 15 August 2010 01:46

I see - thanks prowler... OK I will check the list tomorrow - I have some disk and disk scans that can go up...

Late question...

Can we upload what we have (missing cover disk adf's and missing coverdisk scans) to the EAB server and then just forward the stuff to the boys at AMR and say "here you go - you need this as well" or do we have to upload our stuff to AMR as well??

It would make sense to just do it once...

Hey, thanks for those links, MethodGit! :great Those sites were not online last time I checked. I thought they had gone forever, which would have been a great loss.

@TCD: Would you rather they were unpacked? ;)

TCD 15 August 2010 01:52

@Peter
I'm sure the 'boys at AMR' are able to grab the stuff from the file server ;) Of course I'm biased, but for now the file server seems to have the most complete set of at least Amiga Format coverdisks :) So it would make sense to at least upload the disk images there.

Of course :D Would be great if you could ADF them and maybe also have a quick look if they work :great

Edit : Here's the updated 'Missing In Action' list
Code:

Amiga Format #092 (1996-11-27)(Future Publishing)(GB)(Disk 1 of 2)[Dec 1996] - 092a
Amiga Format #093 (1996-12-24)(Future Publishing)(GB)(Disk 1 of 2)[Jan 1997] - 093a
Amiga Format #095 (all disks)
Amiga Format #096 (1997-03)(Future Publishing)(GB)(Disk 1 of 2)[Apr 1997] - 096a
Amiga Format #097 - #101 (all disks)
Amiga Format #102 (1997-09-04)(Future Publishing)(GB)(Disk 1 of 2)[Oct 1997] - 102a
Amiga Format #103 - #136 (all disks)

:)

Edit 2 : Hmm, seems that I should get some from AMR... ;)

Hmm... There's more than just 'a few'. ;)

Edit: Oh, I see. The others are merely duplicates. Okay, I'll download those five you listed tonight and unpack/check them tomorrow if I get time.
