Backup and restore to new CF hard drive
Hi All,
I've just purchased a 4GB CF drive from Amiga kit. Ideally I'd like to make a backup image of my current HD and do a restore onto CF card. I realise I'll probably have to backup to floppy but I dont mind. My current HD is only 40MB and is only 60% utilised so shouldn't take long. Can anyone suggest a program that could do this? Thanks |
There is a program in the Tools dir called HDBackup.
Alternately, if you can attach the drive to a PC, then you can use WinUAE to make an HDF image of your drive. |
I've seen HDF go corrupt, I'd do what Arnie suggests but lha the contents of you drives :)
That's what I do and none of my backups have ever failed :great |

The actual geometry of the drive can also be saved as a drive definition file. |
Our EasyADF program also has a backup function that can archive your entire partition.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll post back and let you know what I choose to do and how it went.

I ended up backing up my old drive using Lha to make a compressed archive. I then copied the file to my PC over serial using Amiga explorer, installed my new CF HD and then copied the file back to my new drive. It uncompressed perfectly and everything works great.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.
I'm looking to back up my 4gb CF drive and have been looking at a few ways to do it. 1. I've had a look at HDbackup but I would assume I would need a bigger CF card in my PCMCIA socket to put the final file onto it, would this be correct? 2. I've also used WinImage on my PC, the back up was made fine but when I bought another 4gb card to restore it onto, it got to 97% and failed (I assume because even though I used the same make of CF card 'sandisk' it was not EXACTLY the same size) I don't really want to waste money on another one in case its a few bytes smaller again! 3. I have EasyADF but again I had a look but I believe I would need a bigger than 4gb PCMCIA card to transfer the file. From what I can tell from the other posts its possible to compress the completed file (lha?) however, would I not need a bigger than 4gb PCMCIA to hold the file whilst it compresses? If anyone else can suggest anything, I'd be grateful :-) Hope this all makes sense :-) Thank you for any help |
EasyADF already compresses the HD backup to an LHA file. Please read the tutorial here:
