A question for the hardcore hackers out there
As mature an OS as the Amiga is and the fact that it has been in limbo for so many years, has the source for the core Amiga libraries, exec, intuition, dos, etc. ever made it out to the web? Just curious, that's all... :blased

Some mad person disassembled the complete kickstart 1.3 ROM (with comments I believe!), but no version since then...

That is pretty crazy. Not something that you would want to attempt without lots of spare time.
Even bigger task for the later versions of the Kickstart ROMS, and there's lots of non rom-resident libraries too, that wouldnt be included in a rom disassembly. |
Who's up for the challenge? :P

An old disassembly of exec 1.2 can be downloaded from aminet:
http://main.aminet.net/dev/asm/ExecDis.lha or found on the website of the guy who did it: http://wandel.ca/homepage/execdis/ There are also some books with disassemblies of parts of the kickstart. Unfortunately I don't know about other disassemblies. Years ago there indeed were leaked sourcecodes of the exec library, which I've seen. Can't seem to find any information about it anymore though on internet. Anyone know if there where newsarticles about it? Ofcourse there also is the AmigaOS clone called AROS, which is opensource. ( http://www.aros.org/ ) |
*off topic* I remember when I started coding asm for the MSX, I had contacts... a guy I knew disassembled the ROM for me, printed it, and gave me the binder! (I payed him like 30 euros). I used it to plot faster. These guys deserve medals!

damn don't know why they didn't port those to the amiga, but from what i saw on hol, it would of been the shitty NES version that would of hit the amiga. |
