WOW!

This has come a long way from only a year ago!!!

@OlafSch

Have you or anyone tried this setup on the target machine - say an 040/060 with RTG?

OlafSch 18 June 2012 16:27

Yes it runs on real hardware, but right now still needs fast processors (68060 recommended) because not optimized. There are some threads discussing it on amigaworld. I saw a video with a nightly build and scalos on 68060 (AGA) that was usable. 68030 was too slow (when I last saw it). Perhaps 68040 is enough and of course more RAM. RTG is not a necessity but does not harm either. Up to now my distribution was running only emulated (WinUAE, E-UAE on Aros...) but it is based on nightly build so it should work on real hardware too.

thanks for the heads up OlafSch!

I wonder how long it will be until there is a full support for the m68k + PPC 603!?

OlafSch 18 June 2012 16:37

Ppc 603?

Since this is a 68k release I very much doubt that any PPC will be supported.

@OlafSch

I think this is a great work keep it up! :)

OlafSch 18 June 2012 16:49

Thank you :-)

there is a PPC nightly build of Aros (and X86/ARM/68k) but that are different versions. Most software is only available for X86 (and many programs are 68k of course) but I doubt that there will be much more support for PPC than to have a nightly build. Even Apple is X86 now so I do not see much need outside parts of the community. PowerUP (or similar) is not supported. You have either 68k or PPC (or X86 or ARM). 68k is the exception because it runs also in UAE and can and will be used in Aros distributions for emulation.

Zetr0 18 June 2012 16:52

@xpect

There is a PPC release for AROS - isn't there ?

I vaguely remember reading about it nearly a year or so ago....

Personally I was wondering how much work it would be to offer an m68k release with a revised PPC bolt on made for the humble 603/640 PPC

@Olaf

The 603 / 604 varient of the PPC are found on the Blizzard / Cyberstorm PPC accelerator cards

[edit]

ahhh you answered it already =D

Mendel 18 June 2012 17:26

Interesting...

I have a tower A1200 setup with BPPC that has 060@60MHz.

I also have a spare cf card that I have just formatted...

If I just unpack that zip and move all the contents to my DH0: should it just boot up and work immediately? I have a mediator 1200 tx and Voodoo 3.

I think I will just try it...

OlafSch 18 June 2012 17:30

it could work... look on amigaworld there are some threads regarding this topic

johnim 18 June 2012 19:49

thanks for your hardwork will test too on my main miggy

Mendel 18 June 2012 20:16

Well, tried it. My crt will stay black.

I really need to get some sort of vga switch going on so I can check if there is anything coming out of indi aga and voodoo 3 both without detaching cables Can not connect voodoo 3 with screws to my tower and all hell would break loose if I do the switcheroo while the damn thing is on. :guru :laughing

@mendel

did you change the KickROM or does Aros 68k work with Kickstart 3.1?

aros 68k will softkick itself either from a floppy or from hd. you can just decompress its main nightly iso image from the aros download page to an amiga formatted hard drive stick it in, push the power button and aros should boot.
if you have no fast internet currently on the miggy, you can use winuae to prepare such a disk.

also there is a way to use zorro rtg cards under aros68k already. mediator pci support, mesa, owb is underway. how this will perform on real hardware remains to be seen. i dont think there will be support for ppc side on p5 cards, warpos or the like any soon and i must say im fine with that as it is aros68k in the end. on the other hand aros is not bound to an (cpu) architecture and all kind of things might happen.

wawa 18 June 2012 23:33

i have not tested olafs distro but it looks very good imho. but everybody who has problems to get it to run on a real hardware should give a pure nightly a try. the distro might be too heavy.

optionally i would try to boot aros68k without startup-sequence, soft reset after aros softkick (ctrl+amiga+amiga) and then both mouse keys pressed as ever. aros early boot will appear where as customary boot without s-s option can be chosen. now aros will boot to a shell. since black screen might be caused by wrong screenmode set, you can delete screenmode.prefs in envarc from the prompt and restart to see if that helps.

Xenon 19 June 2012 03:02

It looks very good :)

Okay, that´ll explain why my Voodoo wont output any image :)

I´ll try later with later version. :cool

wawa 19 June 2012 12:33

for now zorro cards are supported, if you have a spare you can stick it in your mediator free slot. still you will have to add the drivers for that particular card to aros bootstrap command. it isnt very user friendly but its how it is at this time.

Toni Wilen 19 June 2012 12:42

Note that any kind of real Amiga booting problems will be ignored by developers unless serial log is included. 115200 8N1, null modem cable or serial to USB adapter required.

ma693541 19 June 2012 15:30

@OlafSch If i try to extract the new Aros_Vision V1.3 to this catalog, c:\Users\Public\Documents\Amiga Files\Shared\dir\ to integrate it in AmigaForever, it screw up my System folder for AmigaForever because you have changed the root catalog in Aros_Vision V1.2 from aros_vision to Aros_Vision V1.3 System.
