Using the HARDWARE REF MANUAL on a Amiga 1200

Hi there, can i use the AMIGA HARDWARE REFERENCE MANUAL on a Amiga 1200 (using the coding examples etc.):help

Please help!

The HRM is valid but only describes OCS/ECS register features.

Some registers may have changed slightly.

Thanks for your reply alexh, i want to learn Amiga 68000 assembly coding and tought that ther HRM was a good place to start. I got to start somewhere? But if anybody has a better way to start please inform me about it.:confused

thanks:help

It did the job for me :) Here is how I did it...

Learn 68000 from a book. Read the Hardware Manual twice.

I started by making patterns with the Copper and moved along from there. ("Mastering Amiga Programming Secrets" by Paul Overaa gave me the kick in the ass I needed to get going with Copper but probably isn't necessary :) )

I am very happy to hear that the programs from the HRM also work on a Amiga 1200 so I will follow the advise from musashi5150 :great (thanks by the way). I got some Dutch and English 68000 programming books and in this forum I saw some info and links about using a assembler.

The books from Paul Overaa are high on my want list but they are hard to find :sad.

I was wondering how many people are learning to code 68000 these day’s? :help

Note that you either need to use proper startup code (that does LoadView(0) etc..) or at least set AGA in "ECS emulation" mode. (Clear FMODE, BPLCON3, BPLCON4, perhaps more..)

xampi 28 October 2007 12:26

That’s the problem I was afraid of and that’s the thing I can’t do! at least not yet. :nuts

I just want to start learning and learn from code that works so I don’t get more lost :banghead

So can I use the HRM on the Amiga 1200 without adjusting the code? or must I use a Amiga 500/2000 :help

Yes, for the most part A1200 should be fine. Check your PM/Email :)

Where'd you get your copy from? I've been searching for this for ages :D

I bought mine new from Amazon several years ago - out of stock now I see. Then I wrote the Amazon review of it and won £50 :D

The Book is not for sale new or second hand and not in the library, maybe it’s time for a digital version. :nuts

I would love it as an e-book! Don’t you? :rolleyes

Interesting.. I'm also new to Amiga ASM programming. After 20 years I finally want to know the inner heart of my beloved Ami.. I've got a book about 86000 programming from paul overaa, but it doesn't cover much of the amiga.
Also, I would LOVE to peek into that HRM. Is there any possibility to get a digital version somewhere?
