Power Computing XL

Hey guys,

I think I have here what is a Power Computing XL high-density external floppy drive.

It reads normal DD disks, but I took a HD disk and wrote an ADF to it on my PC but then the Amiga doesnt read it.. am I doing something wrong?

Ive read that a routine is needed to WRITE disks on an amiga? does anyone know where I can download such a routine as it didnt come with a drivers disk...

Also does anyone know what these are worth, what kind of use does it have as im a bit confused really.. just a higher capacity?

How did you write an ADF using your PC?

Without a catweasel controller or two floppy drives and the program called FDI it is impossible.

You cannot write a DD ADF on the Amiga (or PC) without first covering up the HD hole (tape, or bit of scrunched up paper), effectively turning it into an SD disk

To read/write HD disks on the Amiga using the XL you need some drivers.

Thanks for the driver, you rock!

Hmm.. I just dragged the ADF on :-P I guess thats just silly :-P

So what's the point in this Power Computing XL?

I've also just read on this website it's worth £70.. is that true?

I don't know exactly what you mean with "point" but the point of this drive is that you can have HD floppies on your Amiga:)

To read pc floppies on your Amiga you need to mount PC0: or PC1: from workbench. It is in the storage/dosdrivers drawer if you have OS3.1 or higher. If your OS is older you need the program CrossDOS to mount pc drives.

ADF files image files of Amiga disks. Usually this are 880Kb images so that's why they fit on you PC HD disk.

And about the price: if that's what they sell for on their website I guess that's what they're worth! Whoever said computer equipment loses its value?:D

I have one of these drives! works fairly well.
The best one ive ever come accross was the Amitek external high-density! it doesnt need drivers to read the disk's :)
