Amiga my short story...

When I was about 10 or so (21 years ago) I met a friend and he came over to my house. I had just got a Genesis system and some games. He told me how much it sucked. :laughing "These graphics just suck man" So we promptly went to his house. Where he had a nice A1200. I was amazed at the graphics and how it could present demos, play music ect. I did what any kid would do, go home and beg Mom and Dad for a new Amiga. Of course it never happened. I got to play on his a lot until he moved away. I wouldn't see another Amiga for years. My parents eventually got me an IBM 486SX 20 and I learned PC from then on in. Then on day at a new friends house (collector) I see 2 Amiga's. OMG no way and then I knew I needed to get one. I was old enough to have a job why not get an Amiga. He then said he would trade me for my PS1. So I got an A1000. Which I would eventually give up on learning and trade for a 386 DX40 to run my BBS on. More Years Pass and while at a friend house I see in a Closet an A1200. OMG it the one I really wanted the first time. Well Needless to say we traded and I went home with the right computer this time. I would toy with it for hours. I slowly learned they ways of Amiga. Until the HD died. No internet forums were available back then to help and I didn't know about the local Amiga Store still existing (which still does today) I would store the Amiga until about 3 months ago. I bought a house and the wife says I can have the whole basement at a lab. So I set up a special area for the Amiga and through forums and friends I discover every thing I would need to get this baby back up and running again. Now I have every thing I ever wanted in my Amiga and learning more daily. I only wish that Com Amiga would have invested more in Networking and communication. They might have sold to more businesses and IBM would have been the one to go MIA. Alas I have defenetly these last 3 months become and Amigian and though I will never give up my love for PC's I defenetly won't give up that A1200 either.

T_hairy_bootson 04 March 2009 09:45

Welcome to EAB Claw :)

Muzkat 04 March 2009 10:07

Very nice in-and-out-and-in Amiga story. I'm glad you got there in the end.:D

blade002 04 March 2009 10:24

A beautiful story of loss and love :) .... Glad to have you here!!!

DoogUK 04 March 2009 10:29

I love this sort of thread :great It always reminds me of my own nostalgic feelings over my amigas.

Welcome to EAB ;)

Welcome to EAB Claw :great

Cool story that ended up great at the end.

btw. Should of been a multi-choice poll, I have the same feelings about the A500 as I do with the A1200. I only chose the A1200 'cause it could do more, but the A500 was my first and I loved it :)

Claw22000 06 March 2009 09:31

Thanks for the warm welcome. Does any one on here Live in the Minnesota/USA area. I would like to meet with other fellow Amigians to try and start monthly meetings and possibly learn faster from someone that has much more Amiga experience than me?

Sensi 06 March 2009 09:43

Amiga 1200 21 years ago?)
I voted for A500 because she was my first. A600 second.

Welcome to EAB, Claw, Minnesota is great I think (never been there :)), I like Coens movies and I know people love ice-hockey there more than in other US states.

Beware of Off Topic - Stupidity section, I know what I am talking about ;)

Hello Claw

CD32 is my fav (yes I know its crap but i like it ;))

PowerPie5000 06 March 2009 14:34

I voted A500 as it was the first amiga i ever owned (completed both monkey island games on this + more!) and my A1200 will have to settle with 2nd :)

@Claw22000 you traded an amiga 1000 for a 386 :shocked are you slightly mad? :crazy

I would love an original A1000 but sadly most are dead and buried these days.... most that are still about suffer in there old age :sad

Claw22000 06 March 2009 22:09

Well the 386 had everything I needed to run my BBS and the amiga had nothing except the text to speech tool. I didn't know any one that knew anything about amiga and I didn't know where to look. The net didn't offer help so I figured it was a lost cause at the time. Plus I was young then. I'm sure someone still has it kicken around
I also know where you can get a 1000 if you want one.

Raymond computer here in MN/USA has a few of them.

PowerPie5000 06 March 2009 23:06

I would get an a1000 from the states but i think postage would be a killer :sad

Skope 06 March 2009 23:39

Voted Amiga 500, and that's a no brainer for me. It's simply the most fun computer I've ever used in my life. I had an Atari 520STFM back in 1987 but most of my friends had Amiga 500's. Then one day some guy wanted to trade his 500 for my Atari and I was just "WTF YES!!!". My 500 broke down in 1996 sadly and I traded down to an A1200 that eventually got a Blizzard 1260, Elbox Power Tower, Mediator, Voodoo3 2000 and eventually sold to some guy in TBL in 2001. Now I'm back to an A1200 with 1260 in it and I'm pretty satisfied with that, even if it's nowhere near the experience of the 500. Love that machine!

Pyromania 07 March 2009 00:11

Your Amiga story brought tears to my eyes.

Amiga1992 07 March 2009 01:09

You got to tell me more about this store in MN, it may be the one some frineds told me that still repairs Amigas.

Next time I hit New York I might have to make a little trip to MN, to eat POTATO PIZZA and check out the AMIGA STORE.
Sounds like a nice plan ;)

gklinger 07 March 2009 04:50

A favourite Amiga poll without an Amiga 1000 option is blasphemous.

I'm just saying.

Claw22000 08 March 2009 09:34

@Skope You said Stepped down to an A1200? Whys is that a step down? I know I'm still a little noob but isn't that a step up? Seeing it has AGA and all?

@AKIRA Well I've lived here all my life never even heard of potato pizza but if you do come to MN let me know I would like to try to meet as many fellow Amigians as possible as we are a dieing breed. I also could probably use some pointers.

@gklinger Sorry kinda new and when I realized I missed a few systems it was too late. first poll what can I say

Gordon 08 March 2009 10:11

The fact 600 is not in the list deems this poll a farce. Sorry mate
