(GBA) Light at the end of the tunnel..

If like me, you have a GBA then Im sure you will all agree that the display is too dark!!!

So I'd thought I'd draw your attention to www.portablemonopoly.com

Why couldnt nintendo do this in the first place? I nearly sold my GBA within a week due to frustation cause I couldnt see the damm screen properly.

RetroMan 11 October 2001 17:06

Hmmm, any Info about the price ?? Or is it hidden on the page (think I´m blind sometimes :cool )

From the sounds of it I reckon Nintendo must have chosen a darker screen for a reason.

It must lessen the life, somehow, to increase the brightness.

Amiga1992 11 October 2001 18:37

Well, the NeoGeo Pocket Color has a little brighter screen and its battery life is twice that of the GBA :P Anyway, I think they got the reflectiveness a bit too wrong and it ended up too dark, then again it might have to do with consumption (but I doubt it, since in tehse screens, the darkest means it uses more batteries... all pixels are on when the screen is black, all pixels are off when the screen is white. it is reversed unlike most screens)

Anyway, there is a rumour Nintendo are making new backlit GBAs. It seems pretty obvious for one main reason: Gamecube.

If you plan to use your GBA as a device with your GC, and there are some games that REQUIRE a GBA AND GC (like the upcoming Kirby no Koro Koro), how can you look at the screen in a dark room? A lot of people like to play with the lights turned off. And even with lights on, the lighting might not be ideal, and you would need some kind of light. The GC-to-GBA link cable does NOT Allow you to have light accessories because it covers the whole top of the GBA, so it seems pretty likely that by the end of the year we might have backlitted GBAs.

I surely hope this is true :) but current early adopters of a unit might moan.

Rumours about a backlit GBAs from Nintendo himself are pretty present on the net. (for december 2k1) Hope this special edition will be real !

(note: the pic bellow is only one new color for the gba, codename: "midnight blue")

Damn, they keep churning out these ugly skeleton models. I hate demi transparent consoles, they have no class. I want a silver, backlit gba! :P

gba suxx

I personaly thin gba sux!

I own a game gear and i think that one is much better.
cooler gamez and the light comes out from the back of the screen wich makes is possible to play in the dark.
sega nomade is somewhat the same machine but instead of using spesicic cartridges it uses sega mega drive(genesis) games on it.
Nomades graphics are better than gba.

We all should stick with the old ones.

Amiga1992 17 October 2001 21:34

You have no clue. The GBA is one of the best (top list includes TurboExpress and NGPC)

You cant be comparing anyway, if you say the game gear and the nomad are almost the same!!! completely untrue!
