NovaCoder's new 1200

As some of you know I've been putting together a new 1200 so I can can do some more AGA coding.

Here's the first few pics :D

It may look like an AmigaKit NOS 1200 but this one has actually been put together from spare parts (which is why it's taken so damn long).

Current Specs:
  • ACA 56Mhz
  • IdeFix Express
  • 16GB SSD HD Module

To-do list:
  • Setup LAN
  • Install Delfina Flipper
  • Install eSATA slot (for external DVD ROM drive)
  • Install Indivision AGA Mrk2

Nice and clean A1200 030 with Idefix Express and SSD Module is awesome and l33t my friend :)

This is a fine machine for the job you want it mate \o/

NovaCoder 30 May 2011 05:43

Thanks, when it's finished it should be a very nice 1200.

This is testing if the IDE->SATA adapter will work for the external eSATA DVD ROM drive that I want to hook up later using that bracket. So basically the 1200 was using my PC as an expensive external DVD player :D

It all works fine apart from that I couldn't get it to play AUDIO CD's but that's not a big deal to me anyway.

Next on the list is to get the Delfina Flipper installed :spin

hmm, that mobo looks familiar ;), Loads cleaner too.
Is it all working well for you? looks great though, I like the IDE converter.

NovaCoder 30 May 2011 10:26

Hiya,

Yep couldn't have done it without out ya!

Still having some setup issues (I'm very rusty) but so far it's proving to be a nice stable and fast 1200 :)

Loedown 30 May 2011 17:27

Now the important question, will you be bringing it to the next MAUG catch up on Thursday?

I would like to see it.

Big-Byte 30 May 2011 19:01

Thats spooky.. you have exact same monitor as me. and I still have your pc speakers (also same as in the pic).

I nearly bought an A500 today but it was in such poor condition (badly yellowed, missing keys and rusty)

This thursday hmm, Maybe I can ninja a ride from Nova :P he is near me.
THB is trying to make me get there, I think he wants to see my emu. hmm.

hiya,

Yep would love to take it along to a MAUG but it's not quite ready yet, still got to fit the Delfina and hook up the external audio & eSata connectors.

Maybe I can get it ready in time for next month instead?

I've also had the CAPS done on this MB, it sounds a bit different than my old one but I really like it, have a quick listen here

DOOM is actually playable now with the ACA, it always struggled a bit before with the Blizz Mrk4.

Hiya John,

Yeah isn't that funny, they were so good that I brought another pair of the same speakers as soon as I got over here :laughing

Monitor is also a great choice but it's not for the Amiga (too big!)

Yep grab yourself a 500/600/1200 and mod it silly so we can have a retro gaming session when I come over next July :p

Vairn 31 May 2011 05:15

Wow, sounds so much better then before, I guess the caps were dying for me hehe.

hmm, never had much trouble with doom on my mkIV, Used both ADoom, and DoomAttack. DoomAttack was faster though.

Loedown 31 May 2011 11:14

Caps dying is usually subtle and as people get used to the way things are they don't know that it should be any different.

I may be able to attend in July, it depends on work schedule and other controlling factors.

Hewitson 31 May 2011 11:51

Nice machine, wish my keyboard still looked that new.

I've been considering going along to the MAUG for quite a while, not having a license makes things difficult but I'm sure I'll come down one night for a few games and hopefully a few beverages :)

Remind me which suburb you're in, I may be able to grab you on the way through but I will warn you now, I'll be starting work on Friday at an ungodly hour so my time will be very limited.

NovaCoder 01 June 2011 01:27

Looks like we're on for next month then at MAUG :)

Thats the same reason i have troubles attending these things. No liscence is annoying, and before people call me crazy and lazy, I don't have one cause my eyes are broken, things that need fast focusing and stuff like that don't work for me.

Retrofan 07 June 2011 15:25

So have you got the Delfina working without caps yet?

Where will you put the connectors?

Yep got it working last night (after some scary soldering iron type action) :shocked

My first try was with ScummVM AGA of course, didn't go too well though as the frequency was too high so I'm not sure what's going on there. It could be a bug in my code or it might be something to do with my AHI setup.

I then tried it with Amplifier (OS3.9) but couldn't get it to play any sound at all so I need to have another go with it.

I also tried using it with a WHDLOAD game but it sounds like you need to feed in the Amiga chipsets native audio via a cable before the Delfina will output it again (eg it can't 'suck' it through the clock-port interface).

I have thought of a nice place to mount it (pics when it's done!) and for the output I'll going to use the expansion Panel at the back along with an eSata output (shown in the pics above).

NovaCoder 19 June 2011 13:37

Still waiting for my new monitor to turn-up so I stole the bedroom TV for some 'testing' :)

Retrofan 19 June 2011 22:58

Looking good ;)... Progress with the Delfina?

NovaCoder 20 June 2011 00:02

delfina is a pain, i'm giving up on it.
