Some music from 80s...
Let's start with Italian band Scotch...

gimbal 21 November 2019 14:04

Oh yeah, the 80's defines my youth. I just cannot dislike music from that era.

I'm going to offer...

HEY, YOU, THE ROCKSTEADY CREW. Perhaps not a classic for most people, but this song is part of my earliest memories of music.

Anubis 21 November 2019 15:12

Thank you for addition.

Late Laura Branigan - Self Control

Retroplay 21 November 2019 15:43

Sooo many great tunes from that era, unlike most of the run-of-the-mill shovelware topping the charts these days.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Runner (1984)

Mike & The Mechanics - Silent Running (1985)

The Smithereens - Blood and Roses (1986)

The Payola$ - Eyes of a Stranger (1982)

Bily Idol - White Wedding (1982)

Raf - Self Control is the original version.

Laura Branigan version is a cover.
and was more successful than the original ..

probably because I've been used to it since the 80s but I think the Raf version is better :)

Lot of people told me I look like the keyboardist in this video, so there's that going for me, which is nice, I guess... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OasJDb3Wmp0

Well, I hope you have a less syncopated way of typing on your own keyboard :) .

Around my Dream (1985), this also is a case of the reprise selling better than the original (from an Italian singer whose name is Silver Pozzoli). In practice, it's a little more complicated (song was reissued later on by him for discos or something like that) but anyway.

Exactly how we imagine Shooney... :cheese

As for RAF version, for me used to Branigan's version it sounds like Remix. :shocked :D

Another Italian singer - Gazebo...

Alizee did nicely her version, no that is not part of 80s... :)

And best known Austrian from 80's, also late, Falco...

Israel, also another late singer from 80' who died almost 20 years ago.

Almost like Eurosong contest for 80 disco. :cheese

Not much from east Europe was played... at least nothing that I remember that becomes hit outside of its own country...

If I got some countries wrong, sorry, it is not intentional...

Falco - Rock Me Amadeus, guy was Austrian (1985) [edit : Ah, just saw you mentioned Falco]

Propaganda, German new wave/synth-pop band - p: Machinery (1985)

Klaus Nomi aka Klaus Sperber, German died early of AIDS sadly - The Cold Song (1981)

Anubis 22 November 2019 14:07

While Austria is east of France, I would not consider it East European country. :)

I don't remember Klaus Nomi at all. :(

Little bit of rock and USA...

We went with kids (9 and 13 at the time) on his concert last year and it was crazy good. At the end of concert some folks close to us told my kids that they had no idea how lucky they were. (not just for missing school that and following day :D) I think that for them was more interesting that my kids knew song and were quite loud singing them. :D

And something that was hunting 80s....

Thank you all for additions, working on creating good 80's hit playlist. :)

SquawkBox 22 November 2019 16:03

This is hands down my favorite song from Bon Jovi :

Don't forget to include in your list few Rod Stewart and ZZ Top hits of that decade. I made a 80s list myself a few years back. I may disclose its content in PM if you're interested.

Anubis 22 November 2019 17:15

That is also good song by Bon Jovi, Runaway is song that started his carrier.

Now to something different, Sandra:

She did for her then husband vocals for Engima project. (something we can cover on different topic later :))

Had no idea Art Company (VOF de Kunst) is from Netherlands. :)

SquawkBox 22 November 2019 17:53

There are a few bands from that era which I like a very limited output of, such as Europe with Final Countdown, Berlin with Take My Breath Away. I am afraid Bon Jovi falls into that category for me, e.q. Keep the Faith was a big hit in France, but I never liked it, though I will admit they are a notch above Europe or Bryan Adams. Same (to some extend) with hugely popular 80's bands such as Tears for Fears, Simply Red, Supertramp, Pet Shop Boys, Aha, Toto I usually pick up two and three songs at best from each of them for my playlists, don't need the whole shebang.

jmmijo 22 November 2019 19:36

So why no Men Without Pants.....errrr..... Men Without Hats and the Safety Dance :spin

Also Queensryche with Silent Lucidity, this is a tune that my mother actually liked.

Then there is Soundgarden with Black Hole Sun.

Zak 22 November 2019 22:46

A dude I know who is in his mid fifties always quotes this one when he wants to stress how much he hates the eighties lol:

Bruce & Bongo - Geil
