Your Favourite Amiga
 

This is a relatively simple question. Out of all the Amiga models, which is your favourite. You may judge this by games, hardware or whatever. Its almost asking which Amiga you would have if only allowed one, but this is not strictly correct. Although you may rather have a turbocharged A4000 you might still consider an A500 to be your favourite. I have decided to distinguish between desktop boxes and towers since I think this can make a significant difference in terms of expansions? Additionally if I have left any models out (I don't think I have) I welcome a moderator to correct the poll.

(EDIT) I think I have listed them in Chronological order, but I'm not sure about a couple of 'em

Hmmh.. Can't see an option for a towered A1200.. especially it's cool when it's towered with a mediator board..

If you want an AGA tower, go get a 4000T. Leave the 1200 alone please. :)

Dammit. I wasn't sure if you could get A1200Ts, none of the sites I looked at to help me put them in date order mentioned a towered A1200, so I assumed there wasn't one. Why would anyonew want an A1200 tower compared to an A4000 tower anyway? I thought the whole point of an A1200 was to be the mainstream AGA machine for normal users, who wouldn't need tower expandability.
Well if any moderator wants to add A1200T feel free to do so...

There wasn't a real A1200T released but there have been numerous conversion kits to do it later.. IMO putting the A1200 in a tower makes the machine more expandable..

In finland where A4000's are few and far between, an option to tower a more common A1200 is more sensible

My favourite Amiga is certainly the A1200. A cheap low-level "newbie" computer that grows the same way your requirements grow. Need more memory? An internal HD?, a faster CPU? a NIC? -> no problem.

And that's exactly the reason why tower conversion kits for A1200 computers made sense: I bought a tower and a Zorro2 backplane six or seven years ago. *Much* cheaper than upgrading to an A4000.

I still have my first A1200, purchased nearly 10 years ago. I couldn't afford an A4000 back then, but my A1200 is now more powerful than most A4000s out there.

I picked the 500 because it made the amiga line popular, plays most of the games, I like the all in 1 keyboard look, and I never owned a 1200 (yet)

i have and still use an A1200, its got a 85Mb HD which is great, but i only aquired the HD recently.... would have been so handy first time around....

i really liked the A500, this was my first Amiga and it brings back fond memories....

but real power and performance its gotta be the A1200.... although i liked to see how a A4000 works ;)

A1200 for me too! I've never even seen the alot of the others on the list, Notable exceptions being the 500, 500+ and the 600.

I have an A4000D (custom tower) CS Mk II 060/50, 128Mb, PicassoIV, Paloma, X-Surf, Multiface III, Silversurfer, 40+ Gb of ide & scsi HD's, DVD rom, cdrw, LS120, 15.1" TFT monitor, Epson GT-6500 SCSI scanner, laser and inkjet printers, 56k modem, USB mouse & keyboard (use home built adaptors) and a MAS-Player.

As someone told me 'you don't p*ss about do you?' :)

I started with an A1000 (512k, external floppy & 1081) way back in 1985, bloody amazing machine :) Upgraded to an B2000 in 1991 (10Mb, dual floppy, 120Mb scsi HD) with A5000 020/8Mb accelerator added in 1992.

In 1994 I got my A4000D with Warpengine 040/28/32MB 2x520 Mb hd's and have been slowly building it up since then.

November 2002, ordered my G4 A1 and am still waiting :(

BTW, you forgot the A2000HD (came out the same time as the A1500, they put an A2091 and HD in as standard) and the rare A2500.

lemme tell you a little story...

Around about ten years, i went to "computer college", and realised that businesses used PCs, so against my better judgement i built a PC... my Amiga was still there sitting by my PC, but i found myself learning business apps etc...

... my A1200 was a standard one, no HD or anything, the most i did with it was a small amount of coding (in AMOS), a few pics in Dpaint, a minute amount of tracker tunes.... but mostly play games (blinding ones at that)... but i never touched Workbench (probably because of the lack of a HD)...

... i was learning more and more about the PC, first DOS then Win3.1... then i went to work in an office, in the quiet times, i learnt more and more PC apps and eventually Win95...

... my Amiga was packed away, ready for my Pentium machine... by this time, i knew most PC OSs inside out and PC hardware inside out...

sadly... i never took the time to learn Workbench and the later hardware advances the Amiga had...

thanks to the net and you guys at EAB, my Amiga has been dusted off and is feeling electricity running through its chips.... but i'm STILL really green when it comes to WB and the more advanced side of the hardware...

so...

sorry if i seem really dumb.. i'm not honestly:D ... i am just along for the ride.... its great:)

I've seen better spec A4000's and A1200's (similar to mine but with PPC's, soundcards etc...) on amibench going for around £600 to £800, some even as high as £1200 but they didn't sell :)

A500, for me, as I never used a real 32bit Amiga.
I was a teen, and used it for games.

Now, I have a A500, A500+ (with Kick 1.3 [??]), and a A2000HD.

I'll try to upgrade it a little (acceleration, more RAM, and - why not - ethernet)
Or perhaps I should buy a A1 or a Pegasos ?

I had to say A3000. Not just because I've owned one for 10 years. But, because it was probably the best designed Amiga to be released. Zorro 3, SD/FF, SCSI, 32b RAM, 2M chip, etc.

The A1200 is pretty nice also, mainly because of the form factor and the addons available.

Even though most people think that the A4000 was a computer that was badly designed (the case of course), I think it was the only way to step forward. I was disappointed when I saw the A1200, a desktop computer with very limited expandability at the time. If Commodore had delivered A4000 for the masses, then Commodore should probably be still alive today. Unfortunatelly, they released A4000 at a ridiculous price. I still think A4k was the way to go simply because you could expand it so easily and make it a NG computer without the need to change the case, do iron soldering etc etc.
