Amiga Hall of Fame 1996 Nominations

Amiga Hall of Fame 1996 Nominations. I haven’t don’t a hall of fame post in almost a year, lots has happened to keep me busy but now I have time to start these up again. For those people who are new to EAB I have put together a list of previous winners;

Previous Winners:
85/86: Defender of the Crown
87: Arkanoid
88: IK+
89: Elite
1980’s Winner was: IK+ (just a bit of fun that poll)

90: Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
91: Turrican II
92: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
93: Cannon Fodder
94: Sensible World of Soccer
95: Worms!

Again please be nice and keep you nominations to a MAXIMUM of 10 per person, although I don’t think many people will find that many to nominate. You can do an advanced search on HOL for games released in 1996 if you need a list or use the link below.

HOL 1996

BEWARE, re-releases and aga/cd32 versions of older games do not count as new games for 1996 and are therefore not eligible for entry. Unless they have been both altered by a large amount and you can convince the rest of us to allow it in. Therefore SWOS 95/96 would not be considered a new game.

I’ll let this run about a week or until it looks like it done, then I’ll create the poll for the vote. So off you go…

Oh dear god, the Amiga really was dying in 1996!

Is the time difference in Canada one year? Or you been that lazy you fat f*ck!

Gotta be Slam Tilt, with honourable mention to

Breed 96 (Shareware)
Watchtower
XP8

I can see Slam Tilt running away with this to be honest

Belgarath 07 February 2007 16:59

Fightin' Spirit
Slam Tilt

Tim Janssen 07 February 2007 17:08

1996 brought for me two games I really, really like:
Minskies Furballs and Slam Tilt.

BippyM 07 February 2007 17:15

Slam Tilt

Retro-Nerd 07 February 2007 19:41

Slam Tilt
Mega Typhoon
Chaos Engine 2

Graham Humphrey 07 February 2007 19:56

What an awful year for Amiga games eh? Other than Slam Tilt though there's:

Xtreme Racing
Fighting Spirit
Black Viper
Pinball Prelude (with apologies to KG) :)

Zetr0 07 February 2007 22:31

1996 only 150 entries on HOL :(

So here we are choosing a game that defines the amiga in 1996...

well there are several areas to consider so I have choosen a couple and I hope to explain my thoughts on this...

first up is

Shareware Freeware Honourables for 1996!

Aerial Racers
Battle Craft
Breed 96

out of these I felt that Battle craft really captured something in 96, what with blizzards warcraft and starcraft this seemed to have that same something.

Commercial releases

The Chaos Engine 2
Slam Tilt
SuperStreetFighter 2 Turbo

From here I reason out a game that pushes the limmits with gameplay / graphics and playability and in this one it has to be SlamTilt!

If only they had released it!

Evils Doom

Its one I would most certainly owned, bringing back the dungeon crawler with slick AGA graphics blended with real speach and cd atmospheric music... mmm if only....

Worst Game Contenders for 1996

Pinball Prelude

Erm.......... Kick Off 96? Kang Fu? Pinball Hazard? I know Prelude's not everyone's cup of tea but I certainly wouldn't say it was the worst game of the year. Just my $0.02 :)

Zetr0 07 February 2007 22:48

i'l see you $0.02 cents... and err raise you 1p (equiv, $0.019 cents) with pinball prelude ecs!

(heheh)

indeed Kangfu, Pinball hazard are worthy contenders for the bin of 96

@Graham Humphrey
I just noticed your local.... I study at the UEA :)

killergorilla 07 February 2007 23:27

what the fuck are you smoking ?:evilgrin god...i have been waiting so long to reply this to you... canadians are watching you!

by the way, when do you think your site will be operational ? in a year or so ?:laughing

and yes from what i have listened to, it's better to consider that oasis no longer exists

killergorilla 08 February 2007 01:17

Freaky lives in Canada, he moved there very recently :) And it's been a year since he posted his last poll so I figured it must be something to do with the time difference :D

And it's not my fault my site isn't 'fully operational' (stops emperor style voice), it's the server's fault. The files are there, it's just nobody can download more than 20mb of a pack because of shitty cgi timeouts.

As soon as it's fixed I'll click one button and BOOM!

Dizzy 08 February 2007 08:31

oh my what a great year. I can't decide which 10 to chose. Damn I wish I could say them all..

...

...

...

oh we do talk Sega Saturn dont we......

Playstation?????.....

oh amiga :shocked :confused

okey here they come. My nomination for Hall of Fame 1996

Chaos Engine 2, The

Exile Discovery Disk

Sensible World Of Moon Soccer

Timekeepers Expansion Disk

Hall of Shame

Brian Lara's Cricket 96

Capital Punishment

City Cars

Kang Fu

Kick Off 96

Pinball Prelude

Super Street Fighter II Turbo

Valhalla & The Fortress Of Eve

XTreme Racing 2.0

killergorilla 08 February 2007 11:13

Do data disks count in these polls freaky?

Dizzy 08 February 2007 11:16

no but as many of the games from 96 is datadisc (or updated version of older games) I guess the list will be very very short if we dont put them on the list ;) :laughing

killergorilla 08 February 2007 11:24

Is it worth even doing the poll! Slam Tilt is going to win easily :)

I can't wait for 1997... :crazy
