speedball 2 CD32 and other CD32 questions

hi all,

new to the board and winUAE, please be gentle :)

on my arcade machine, i've added winUAE for amiga 500 emulation, running WHDload images, runs beautifully.

i've also added amiga CD32 and it runs mostly ok. i've set up a separate winUAE so that it loads from my front end as a CD32 system after mounting images with daemon tools; everything seems to be running ok except for a few games.

in particular, i have a speedball 2 image (a cue/iso file with 19 mp3 audio tracks, total size 421 mb).

folks seem to be able to get this to run. mine starts, goes thru the text intro and then hits the "loading" screen and stays there.

so i'm thinking i may not have some setting correctly set up in winUAE.

anyone have any suggestions?

thanks, t

No suggestions as far as your problem goes, but the A500 version of Speedball 2 is far better. I suggest you forget about the CD32 one and play that :)

I concur. The CD32 version of Speedball 2 has extra colours..... which actually diminish the impact of the graphics.

The A500 version is the de-facto Amiga version.

Not to forget the awful CD music. Really not worth your time to mess around with this version :)

I would suspect the CD32 version would have an NTSC check in it, have you ticked the option for NTSC within WinUAE?

Retro1234 07 June 2010 11:49

SpeedBall 2 CD32 does have a NTSC Check and will stall at the point described.
I dont argree though I think the CD32 version is a good game:)

:It also checks CD.device -Dont know if that matters

I haven't heard the music, but the graphics look like absolute shit compared to the OCS version.

WinUAE 2.1 and later have built-in cue/iso/wav/mp3 support, there is no need for external CD emulators anymore.

(and to make this fully ontopic: I'll confirm NTSC check later today :))

Works fine here without NTSC (2.1 and latest beta tested)

i remember the cd32 version not to work with my competition pro, only the cd32pad. why the hell would one like to play it with a pad??? so that's why i prefer the a500 version. sorry for the ot!!

HAHAHA! so much love for the a500 version :)

btw, also my favorite version, i was just trying to get my cd32 emulator set up and working with as many images as possible is all. fyi, i unchecked "ntsc" and it loaded like a charm, thank you all.

curious, anyone know of a winUAE CD32 "master list" with all the games and what, if any, tricks are needed to get them running? there are a few other images that won't load for me (i'll try the unchecked ntsc on all of them)

And btw: Daemon Tools (and other mounting tools) cannot mount ISO+MP3 rips, only ISO+WAV. Indeed you have to use the WinUAE built-in option, if you don't want to convert all your CD32 tracks to WAV.

i'm using daemon tools to mount speedball, seems to be working ok?

Retro-Nerd 08 June 2010 01:19

ISO+MP3+CUE? It's still not implemented yet.

Edit: Just tried it, nope no chance.

d8thstar 08 June 2010 01:30

apologies, i'm a moron, all my images are wav files :)

Retro-Nerd 08 June 2010 01:31

Well, you confused me for a minute. :D
