Coverdisk list for SPS preservation

As requested in another thread, here's a WIP list of the coverdisks I've been sent for turning into IPFs for preservation.

If the disk has OK! beside it, the dump is good. If a disk isn't listed, I don't have a RAW dump of it.

If a dump is bad, I'll write who sent it so you know if it's your copy! Missing indicates that at least one disk from that particular issue is missing.

Here's the full list of issues

tomse 09 June 2014 16:12

which do you want, RAW files made from the amiga, or the streamfiles from the kryoflux?

great initiative though ! :great

(I have a diskbox of Amiga Format, + some random of other)

alexh 09 June 2014 16:54

It would be good if we can identify which cover disks do not have ADF files (probably because they were copy protected or dual format) and most in need of IPF images?

Nobby_UK 09 June 2014 22:11

SPS preservation do not like ADF's
and the one RAW I made was 3 Meg

:shocked

Codetapper 09 June 2014 22:35

RAW files are needed for the SPS dumping tools if I'm able to process them. The Kyroflux ones could be done by the SPS team but they're so busy I fear it'd just be more delays! I can tell pretty quickly if they're unmodified so if people start uploading them, I'll process as quickly as I can.

I have no way of telling which disks are plain ADFs and which are custom format/copy protected without actually getting hold of the disks. I know some which definitely are non AmigaDOS but there's hundreds of disks out there.

My collection sadly has a lot of modified disks as back in the day I compressed some of the files on the disk or replaced whole disks with cracks hence a fair number of mine are no good for preservation :(

Each magazine on AMR has a coverdisk index (where known) which at least lists what's on the disks. eg. Amiga Format coverdisks, Amiga Power coverdisks, CU Amiga coverdisks etc...

Galahad/FLT 10 June 2014 00:43

I did a clean crack of Archipelagos Amiga Format coverdisk for Prowler I think it was.

Nobby_UK 10 June 2014 02:36

I suppose archiving (Zip/Rar, Lha/Lzx) the RAWS is acceptable

I have just done AP11, 12a, 13a, 14a and b.

Codetapper 10 June 2014 03:06

Great thanks Nobby. And yep, archiving them is great! Will you upload them to the Zone or something? You can email them to me otherwise if that's easier, codetapper at gmail.

One thing I haven't had a reply from the SPS boys is the actual naming convention to use on these. To keep them Amiga compatible they really should be 31 chars or less, but then you can't describe what's on them very well, especially the disks like Amiga Computing or CU Amiga that had tonnes of stuff on them.

Any brilliant ideas?

ajk 10 June 2014 07:50

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but it's not quite clear to me - do you also want dumps for floppies not listed here, or just replacements for the listed bad ones? I've got most CU Amiga and Amiga Format coverdisks from about 1993 onwards, and a Kryoflux.

mr.vince 10 June 2014 09:38

Codetapper... DTC can convert KryoFlux stream dumps to CT RAW. You can then process them! :)

As for naming... As you wish. I am emailing you for numbering them internally.

Codetapper 10 June 2014 10:50

ajk: Those are what I have, so any that are missing or marked bad, I'd like. I have found a lot more of my Amiga Format and Amiga Power disks so will add them to the list as I check they are OK.

ajk 10 June 2014 13:25

Okay, I'll start imaging mine soon. I should in principle have a full set from whenever I ordered the mags up to the time when they switched to CDs, though I know some are broken.

I kinda thought the cover disks have been archived many times over by now, so hadn't bothered doing anything with mine :)

IFW 10 June 2014 15:13

Not at all; archiving cover disks in their original state is an important project - they reflect on the history of the platform just as well as the games themselves.

Nobby_UK 10 June 2014 21:02

Zoned as e-mail bounced

Is there a size limit to e-mails ?

Codetapper 10 June 2014 21:57

I'd say google doesn't like rar archives rather than any limit. Zip should work, but the zone is fine. I'll process those ones you uploaded tonight! Thanks!

tomse 10 June 2014 21:57

Doing Amiga Format disk 11 now.
I also just read from mr.vince that dtc can convert from kryo stream to ct raw.. I'll be doing this tomorrow and send you a test.

doing it with the kryo is quite faster than doing it on the amiga.

as I said I have a full diskbox Amiga Format, I hope most of them will be useful.

edit: it isn't disk 11 but amiga format collection nr11

mr.vince 11 June 2014 10:04

DTC -f<streamfilenamehere> -i0 -f<ctrawnamehere> -i2 -m1

-m1 tells DTC to use stream as input...

Retroplay 11 June 2014 16:11

Anybody else get corrupted enemy sprites in the Project-X demo on disk 12a in WinUAE ?
Cycle exact doesn't seem to fix it.

Btw thanks for zoning them Nobby.

tomse 11 June 2014 19:08

doing the following amiga format disks in this batch run.
27
43b
63b

Did you have any trouble with the Menu ?
On my 600 & 1200 --- F1 and F2 did not respond
But fine on my 500 (half + half)

I did alter the Start-up on AP11
But changed it back --- I did not think it would show ?

Is it just me or is the Zone Slow today ?
