PicoPSU 120W internal in A1200D
In an effort to "modernize" my whdload A1200D, I added an internal 120W picoPSU, an 1230/50 blizzard, a flickermagic and an IDEfix Express adaptor... this little beast runs ultra-stable with OS3.9_cwb :spin
special thanks and :bowdown to Zetr0 , for making the keropi-ATX adaptor and bearing with my questions about fittin' hardware :spin:spin:spin so here are some photos of the entire process: here is the picoPSU: http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...qp/picoPSU.jpg and here is Z's atx-adapter :great http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...pi-atx-004.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...pi-atx-005.jpg here is the fitting spot, so it won't conflict with other add-ons: http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0311.jpg |
...the power-in modification (I kept the power input in the original position)
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0294.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0295.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0301.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0297.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0302.jpg power on/off switch and the vga-out on the expansion port http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0305.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0308.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/Cimg0310.jpg |

I really do think that is a bang-up job man, truly the bee's knees! :great
Please do not take this the wrong way, but just one little thing I would have done differently is that I'd have soldered the wires direct to the PCB, rather than busting up the old power connector. Too many good points to note about this conversion, like the power button...the silver matches the standard rear ports...really looks "in place"! Again, very, very cool! :D PZ. |
What plugs into the new power socket?

PZ. *edit* - Yeah 12v...it wouldn't work in the car if it was 5v...sorry for that :agree |
Nice Mod! :cool

What the fuck.
AWESOMENESS! I need to do this but I am afraid of the PicoPSU moving around inside the case and fucking something up. Did you secure it somehow? I have lots more space now since I put the CF card instead of the HD... so it's bound to move... I am really looking forward to do this mod in my A1200!But I dont want to solder shit to the Mobo so I will probably run a cable around. Zetro: that PCB will be handy. Contact me and quote me on a price :) I want a complete walkthrough for this mod! I love having the power switch in the miggy :D |
Keropi :great
|
This is cool.. Zetr0 that pcb mod is cool and you should look into mass production.. well maybe not mass but you know
Keropi :great |
yeah, I used velcro tape to secure the picoPSU adapter, it won't move... :spin
also the same velcro tape holds the HD and the idefix express pcb on top of the rf-modulator :D |
this is brilliant, well done zetr0 and Keropi.

Velcro tape will not do it for me I think. My Amiga goes on a case that gets thrown and abused around at airports and airplanes! Everytime I traveled I had to open it because the HD moved. This won't happen anymore with my CF card but and I would like o keep it this way :) |
Any reason this could not be mounted into an external jiffy box with an amiga square plug still feeding the 1200?
|
Try double-sided foam tape...the kind used to attach car badges...that stuff won't budge if applied correctly!
Doubt it? One of my machines has three 5&1/4" drives held in with the stuff, been stable for years! :D PZ. |
Well unless it is being powered by a laptop battery I don't see the point in making it internal.
If it is being powered by a laptop battery then it should all fit inside and be fastened in somehow.. with a charging point at the back... |
