Fast, unknown Amiga & ST emulator

http://www.zophar.net/atarist/fast.html

FAST just isn't a catchy name...this ST/STf/Mega ST/STe/Mega STe and Amiga 500/500+/600/1000/2000/3000 emulator was written in pure 486 protected-mode assembly. FAST also reached ST emulation firsts: Emulation of the HD6301V1P at hardware level and redirection of the floppy disk controller to the PC hardware floppy disk controller. Basically, it does everything, it does it well, it does it fast, and it does it accurately. Definitely worth the download.

Did someone try this emulator? What it can do? Why it's so small?

1) It is not an Amiga emulator
2) Because it is rubbish compatibility wise compared to STeeM

For now, it only features an incomplete emulation of the Atari ST/STf.

The guy who wrote it was a very good coder though. He did the infamous disk2fdi which allowed reading of Amiga disks on a PC without an additional controller.

thank you for information

I confirm, his 68000 emulation code is very clear and excellent.

alexh 26 July 2010 21:56

He released his code?

MESS emulates the following Amiga configurations:
Commodore Amiga 1000 (NTSC-OCS)
Commodore Amiga 500 (NTSC-OCS)
Commodore Amiga 500 (PAL-OCS)
Commodore Amiga CDTV 1.0 (NTSC)
with some limitations.

MESS is a greater emulator for older machines that do not have dedicated emulation software for them. I recall a time when it was the only reliable way to run Vectrex games on a WinNT/2000 system.

I met Vincent at a conference last year and bumped into him again a few weeks ago. If anyone is interested, he's currently working on the EU-funded KEEP project. See http://www.keep-project.eu/ezpub2/index.php for more info.

Sounds like DOSFellow...except Fellow doesn't do ST emulation...

Don't think you can describe Fellow as accurate.
