The Big Book of Amiga Hardware: CLOSED :(

News from Amiga.org:

Amiga-Hardware.com, one of the best sources of information on hardware for out beloved platform has been taken offline. A simple text message reading, "Due to complaints the site is offline. It "may" return at some point, but with reduced contents." is all that remains in its place.
I can't understand who would complain... This is really bad news. :crying

Maybe you got something left in browser cache. And i think it's not unethical to spare the site somewhere, what kind of an a**hole would have been complaining anyway :mad

TheBoss 15 December 2005 12:48

WTF this site is important, noooo give us it back! :crying

alexh 15 December 2005 12:55

I recommend to whoever is preparing the EAB hardware database that they leech what they can now from the cached version.

Finding out who complained and why is a must. Anyone know these people, private email addresses?

keropi 15 December 2005 13:09

at least we still have http://amiga.resource.cx ...

alexh 15 December 2005 13:22

It's better than nothing, but they should expect their bandwidth demands to go up sharply.

_ThEcRoW 15 December 2005 13:54

The site is a must for every amigan!!!!! We should do all the possible to keep it up!!!!!!

Shoonay 15 December 2005 15:55

If you guys missed it, i've got it right here on my hd - probably the last/final/only version... want it "Zoned"? ;)

alexh 15 December 2005 16:01

Just out of curiosity, how come you've got it?

Zone it!

T_hairy_bootson 15 December 2005 16:03

Yes please Shoonay, I will grab it from work tomorrow.

The Big Book of Amiga Hardware

Firstly, apologies for the previous message. It was written as a quick placeholder in the early hours of the morning and I needed to sleep. The site has been taken down because I received a copyright violation notice from the author of a driver. Perhaps it was foolish of me to offer such things for download. The site has always been non-profit, is ad-banner free and has cost me a lot in the 7 years it has been running in both time and money. It is also the product of hundreds of contributors who have taken the time and effort to send submissions. It's for these reasons that I would like the site to return, however I need to decide whether it's worth the risk and if so what alterations need to be made.

- Thanks, Ian.

Shoonay 15 December 2005 16:17

Got it downloaded [2000/04/05] or something like that, when i was getting my Amy a "new" PC PSU :)
...and yes, it IS upgraded to the last version, from the year 2004 :cool

alexh 15 December 2005 16:19

Hmm, I wonder which driver?

T_hairy_bootson 15 December 2005 16:22

@Shoonay: Although a valuable resource for pinouts and information "The hardware book" and "The big book of amiga hardware" are completely different websites.

Shoonay 15 December 2005 16:31

Ow... :banghead

Really sorry for the mistake :scream :(

jrom 15 December 2005 18:45

Pfff... Developers are idiots! :nuts Luckily I'm one of them :D

But drivers should be publicly available... especially for ancient hardware!
