A question or 2 about the Kipper2K K508
per title, I have a question or 2 about the Kipper2K K508:
Assuming I could: 1 - power a 2.5 IDE drive using a different source (in progess) 2 - make a cable to go from the IDE drive to a female CompactFlash connector (i.e. that would plug into the compactflash header) (also in progress) 3 - prepartition / preformat the drive correctly Would / Could / Should it work? Edit: I am aware KS 2.05+ is required. Would there be any other requirements? |
Kipper2K is reworking the board so it fits better in the A2000, as a side effect he is giving the option of 40 or 44pin IDE
You need either a min of a stock KS2.05 for the IDE side or patch your own KS. http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...6&postcount=18 |

I was just about to edit the post to list KS2.05+ as minimum ROM, and am aware of the board being reworked, but my question is for boards that have the CompactFlash socket specifically :) (I should have put that in the original post really! sorry!) |

Why do you want to use a 2.5" drive? Most are getting on now, even when I last used them when they were relatively new they weren't the most robust. I would just stick to a decent 8GB Compact Flash card. |

(And, that other reason. Because "just because" :) ) |
It is possible, but sounds like self harm.
Bear in mind the A508 is not buffered on IDE so keep your cables very short! |
