Caddy Load CD Drives

I was just wondering if anyone knows how rescently they were making caddy load CD drives?, I have a 4X NEC caddy load drive I use with my A1200 but would like a faster more reliable drive whylst keeping the retro caddy load system.

Cheers Peeps, Mick.

No clue man, all i have is an Apple CD150, which is 1x!!!!

I remember the old nec drives that were just lke the PCEngine CDROM drive. That would be a nice drive to have with my miggy. The Apple one is not that bad anyway, but teh nec would looke more at home besides an amiga

Plextor had caddy models up to pretty fast speeds...

But why!?

I detest caddies, hate trays.. In fact I try to buy slot in drives only. :-)

Haven't seen a caddy load system in *ages* for sale.

I still have a couple of caddys here, along with a couple of drives that *might* need them - PD Drives, istr they use caddys. I just got rid of my last NEC drive - 3x3 external. Not sure what the x3 meant as it was a 3x read only device! Bought it about 4 years ago at a weekend fair, with intention of replacing the drive with a faster one, but never used it so "donated" (read palmed off my junk) to a mate.

PD disks look like caddies, but I don't think they're 100% compatible..

Anyways, probably not a wise idea to remove the PD disk from the caddy-cover, as they probably aren't very durable. :-)

I also like the fact it has full CD playing controls on it (play, pause, skip, stop, repeat etc) and a funky backlit LCD

Don't worry mate, a pain in the arse to ship it from the UK! I suppose I can find one locally, I haven't invested any time in it really

I've got three caddy drives - a really old x3 SCSI one (with "creative" stamped on it, think it's an NEC but not sure), an old 4X teac IDE job and the one that's in my A570 A500 add-on unit.

what exactly is a caddy drive?

Jope 14 January 2005 06:40

A drive which uses caddies.

- insert cd into caddy
- insert caddy into drive

I guess it was a good idea back when people had only a limited number of discs, or for library use..

I used to have one of those NECs too.. However the 3x didn't have a back light..

I wouldn't want it in my machine any more, however.. Too Slow for Anything + the dreaded caddies :-)

(and I don't listen to audio CDs at all)
