Gotek and HxC working together

Jeff the creator of HxC floppy emulator has ported his software to the Gotek STM32 SoC and intends to sell it for €10 on top of the price of the Gotek board.

The Amiga, Atari ST and Amstrad CPC managers are working.

Considering how cheap the mass produced Gotek boards are this could be very good news as Hervé Messinger (the first to create custom firmware for the STM32) has been very quiet for some time.

Interesting news, but I'm so used to using ADF files directly I just wont give it up.

Adding support for different disk-image containers shouldnt be too much work, all required info is out there.

alexh 06 May 2015 23:05

If you look on the HxC website there are 4 versions of firmware in development for the Gotek. The normal HxC firmware. One with .ADF support, another with .ST and the Amstrad disk image.

UberFreak 06 May 2015 23:12

I see them now, they're "coming soon" :)

Neil79 07 May 2015 01:40

So you have to buy a gotek and the firmware from HxC? What if you already have a HxC device that costs near £90!

UberFreak 07 May 2015 02:36

Sell it & get a Gotek :)

Am I right in hearing hxc latest firmware on a gotek will allow me to play ST games on an amiga 500? As well as my ordinary adfs for amiga.

kipper2k 07 May 2015 03:06

prfect timing for my 2 new creations :)

No, you will be able to play ST HFE files on an Atari ST if you connect the HxC-Gotek to an Atari.

Once that firmware is finished.

ransom1122 07 May 2015 06:29

Ahhh I see. So the gotek drive with the updated fw can either replace an amiga or ST floppy drive and work for both computers. Nice one

dirkies 07 May 2015 06:36

Now if he could also make amiga specific firmware for the hxc itself to allow feeding it adf files directly without having to convert them first to the hfe format, I would be happy...

It might not be powerful enough..

ransom1122 07 May 2015 07:16

Convert adfs to hfe.... phew lucky I went with gotek.

I posted that is what Jeff has planned.

The STM32 is powerful enough to convert from ADF to flux as that is what Herves (cortexamiga) custom fimware does.

The HxC firmware (indirectly) supports IPF, Kryoflux and Supercard Pro (SCP) files allowing you to use unmodified original disk images that Herves Gotek firmware can't

lurch 07 May 2015 08:24

I have both, the HxC is now on the shelf. So much easier just dropping ADFs straight on to an SDCard.
I do like the LCD that comes with my HxC though, looks good. So if someone comes up with a mod for the Gotek to allow an LCD I would be interested :-)

Arnie 07 May 2015 09:33

It's not really back breaking work to convert adf to hfe. I prefer the HXC, more compatible and easier to find the disk you want. Sure. the HXC costs more but, you get what you pay for.

Some additional informations :

- The firmware come with a USB bootloader : The serial link mess isn't needed anymore for the firmware update/change.
- Once the bootloader in place, you can flash the firmware you want to use with an USB key: HFE,ADF,ST,DSK...
- So far no issue with the USB Sticks tested ;).
- The server is online since a week now (50 units already transformed ;) ). If you want to update your Gotek drive, just contact me by email (10 Euros per unit).
- You can already get a drive with the HxC bootloader at www.amigastore.eu (probably available into other places soon).
- The ADF firmware should be available next week.

dirkies 07 May 2015 14:21

do you get for 10 euro ALL firmware variants (HFE, ADF,etc) or just 1 variant?

And can you flash back to the original FW without serial link?

All variants of course, and you change one for the other as you want with an simple USB stick. The bootloader is common to all firmware.

What do you mean by "the original firmware " ?

dirkies 07 May 2015 14:37

ok, let's give this a spin :)
