2nd HD FDD On Amiga 4000

Hi

I currently have 1 HD FDD in place in my Amiga 4000. I was wondering whether it would be possible to add a 2nd HD FDD into my Amiga 4000 without the use of hardware hacks (ie Catwiesel). The FDD cable i have has 2 ends at one end of the cable so would i just connect the 2nd HD FDD top that and just change the jumper settings so the Amiga recognises that one as DF1:? Many thanks in adanced.

Regards

It certainly is... I have 2 HD drives in my A4000 and yes, the second one is DF1: :)

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Did you have to use additional hardware? Or do use a normal fdd cable with 2 ends and change the jumper settings on the back on the fdd?

No additional hardware - just used the floppy cable that was already in my A4000. I do remember tweaking jumpers to get it working, but it wasn't difficult. It was a while ago now and I can't remember what they were.

I used http://www.amiga-hardware.com for reference.

They are dotted all around the board, but they are labelled - so you shouldn't have a problem. If you get stuck post back with some pics and we'll do our best to help you out :)

Cool thanks for that! :) In the words of Arnie: "i'll be back!"

Where did you get the HD drive from? I can only get hold of incompatible PC drives, such as the dang Sony :(

musashi5150 30 January 2007 09:05

I think I got it from either PowerComputing or Eyetech... both of which are now closed :(

SoftHut.com have some A4000 drives at $95 each... wooo! :D

While it seems steep, exchange rate is excellent at the moment- around $2 - £1 so it isnt just as bad.....

ok i got the hd fdd. it already had df1: jumpers at the back. i didn't do anything to the mobo jumpers and it seems to recognise it as an hd df1 so problem solved! :)

Mobo jumpers only need to be set for dd drives or modified pc hd drives.
