Change "Nostalgia & memories" to "General Amiga Discussion"
 

"Nostalgia & Memories" is a forum dedicated to general discussion about the Amiga (ie. anything that's not strictly news) but it's not named that way.

RCK, have you considered renaming it "General Amiga Discussion" ?

That way you can have:

• Amiga Scene - News, events, etc.
• General Amiga Discussion - Anything Amiga related that doesn't fit into the above, including memories and so on.
• Retrogaming General Discussion - Everything else related to retrogaming.

Logically this makes sense, but nostalgia & memories has always been there for as long as I know this site. The name is quite meta.

i think, "nostalgia & memories" is okay. changing it to "general amiga discussion" would limit it to amiga related discussions and lock everything else out which is not amiga...

"Nostalgia & Memories" is restricted to Amiga talk anyway: "This section is dedicated for all amiga retrogamer's memories."

All other discussion is meant to be in "Retrogaming General Discussion"


This sort of confusion is why I think "Nostalgia & Memories" should be renamed.

if there is a "retrogaming general discussion", i think "retrogaming" is also wrong as it locks down topic to gaming.
there are also other retro activities which don't regard gaming...

That's what the myriad of other subforums are for. Discussing everything else. When discussing anything that's not gaming and not Amiga, it generally goes into one of the Off Topic forums.

What about renaming "Nostalgia & memories" to "Amiga nostalgia & memories" to make it more clear ? :)

I think "General Amiga Discussion" encompasses more than just memories and is clearer, but hey, anything's better than what's there right now.

"General Amiga Discussion" is fine too, but I will let other member to give their opinion here, or maybe you could add a poll to this thread ?

I have no idea how to add a poll to the thread so we'll just leave it to people to reply to this topic I guess.

I'm ok with whatever happens, even leaving everything as-is. It's merely a suggestion to reduce some confusion :)

Top of the thread, "thread tools" (on the left) should have the option "add a poll to the thread". Members can do that when they create a thread. Not sure if you still can after the thread was started. If not, post back and one of us mods will add the poll (state which voting options in your answer).

Decided to keep it as simple as possible :)

To anyone voting, remember this isn't just a name change. It's intent is to make it obvious that the subforum is for all Amiga discussion and not just for memories.

I would keep it as is. Quite iconic and traditional.

And maybe then swap the positions of Amiga Nostalgia & Memories and retrogaming general (as per the original post) so it becomes

* Amiga Scene
* Amiga Nostalgia & Memories
* Retrogaming general discussion

To me this is the logical checkbox order. "Does my post belong in scene? No. Does it belong in nostalgia & memories then? No. Well then it probably needs to be in retrogaming general".

Sounds reasonable to me.

Let's keep everything as-is. My suggestion was to help people new to the forum, but I guess people adapt and are happy with how things are.
