Which Colours do you prefer? Black, white text, yellow links

Or Green, black text, blue links?

Jim 30 April 2004 10:28

Green. Because 1 - white on black is horrble. 2 you are The Green Alien. I'm not to sure about the blue link colour though.

But make sure if you can to use Cascaded Style Sheets (styles) so that you can quickly change all colours anytime you want.

I'll start working on that one:) I know the code looks very bad (*Cough* Ms Frontpage *Cough* :crazy)

Jim 30 April 2004 10:46

But Paul, regardless of the fact you are using FrontPage (which I hate) or the fact that I don't like the present colours too much I will still visit your site dozens more times than the usual people who post shitty sites in here - you know the ones where they spend all the time decorating the site and making the colours nice (some really bad sites even neglect to do this!). In doing this they forget about 2 things:

1 - The purpose of the site - is it useful to the people they intend to make it for.

2 - The contect of the site.

Thus my friend, the hardest part you have already covered. :great

Bloodwych 30 April 2004 22:22

Great, the page finally goes public. :)

Nice to see it in your sig too Paul.

As for the colours, that green is a little bright for me and as Rck knows, possibly to his annoyance, I aren't digging this bright colour thing. Out of the two, I like the black better.

But as Jim said, it's a shame that a green Amiga Alien Guide should not actually be green.

How about making it like your alien cousins - the greys? Or specifically, Workbench grey with black&blue text.

Most important thing as Jim put forward is the content though.

Bloodwych 30 April 2004 22:53

Having another look through I see you've been hard at work replacing many of the screencaps to coincide with the new WinUAE GUI look.

Guess you have a test copy from Toni. :spin Nice work.

Paul 02 May 2004 11:47

Have tidied up the code using TidyGUI 1.1.5 (HTML Tidy)
Converted to Style Sheets
And toned the green background down :)

Thanks for you comments:D

Bloodwych 02 May 2004 12:05

That's better. :)

Only thing I noticed is that it appears to flash the old green colour first then reverts to the darker green when I first open the link. Just a little niggle.

Apart from that the page is shaping up real good.

Thanks for the ClassicWB link. If you decide to keep it, perhaps you might want to change it so it opens in the correct section

Jim 02 May 2004 12:22

Looking good.

However I think the blue is too bright with this green.

The green is good though so I vote to change the blue (which will be a pain as you will need to make CSS styles for the links).

I think it needs to be a bit darker, or make it a really dark green.

Jim 02 May 2004 12:35

Also I notice there is some strange side-effects with your links, in that they are overlined. What is happeneing is that most of your text is underlined with the same colour as the background colour - only to be noticed when hovering over a link. Maybe you put this in by design? But I don't think so....

Anyway, if you need any help or even a non-Frontpage (manual) template created let me know. I ask first cause I notice the "All chapters only on this page are Copyright (c) Paul, The Green Amiga Alien and should not be copied, altered or uploaded to another site without the authors permission." text.

Does drak red look better? and I've already made styles for links so easy to change.

drak red? What's that - show me the colour !

Also another thing I was thinking.......

Your contents page should be an index page.

And for the contents you copy Micro$oft troubleshooters.

Where do you want to go today?

And then have a series of Wizards which load the pages depending on what the user wants to do.

e.g...... I want to Install WB1.3

Q1: Have you setup WinUAE for WB1.3 ? Y - go to question 3

Q2: How do you want to set it up using Windows Directory or HDF ? WD = Chap 1, Meth 1, HDF = Chap 1 Meth 2

Q3 Have you installed WB1.3 Y = Q4, N = Chap 2

Q4 - Is all OK? Y = DONE, N= PROBLEM

DONE: That's it - you're all done :)
PROBLEM: Contact Paul on EAB

Just Improved Navigation by adding Optional Left Frame

Bloodwych 07 January 2005 21:38

Hey, you've really changed the guide layout since the last time I checked.

I like it and the links inside workbench 2.0/1.3 windows work well. So does the frame option.

:cool

The Rom Alien 11 February 2005 08:04

Nice. Just noted that when I close the sidebar the main section goes back to the contents page. Want me to do some HTML validation? Could clean out MS frontpage a bit.

Fixed by using this javascript code:;)

Code:

<a href="javascript:parent.location.href=location.href.substring(location.href.indexOf('?'),location.href.length)">Close Frame</a>

The Rom Alien 11 February 2005 11:52

Thanks. Could you just make a note that the 2.05 (or 2.04) guide should really be changed to 2.xx as it will work for all versions (same for the 3.1)
