Trying to browse Aminet.net today I got this : "unable to connect to database", seems that there is a server problem there :-(

Wild guess - because they have multiple single points of failures :)

It's typically just just the databases backend that seems to stop up every now and then, so I guess they should focus on making that weak link more robust.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for making an redundant extra topic 'bout this earlier. The instability of Aminet is really, really bad. It's: a day up, a day down for the past weeks, completely unreliable. Hope they're working on it: half the internet redirects to it. ;)

Makes it a lot worse with having no www mirrors any more. FTP is great an all but at times a web page with search box is irreplaceable!
Aminet could really do with a working mirror.

In these modern times it is common to use one service address, and let it roam between the hosts using failover backends or using anycast. But again - the problem is the database backend, any number of web mirrors are irrelevant then.
