PhotoGenics 5 and or FX Paint

I went to the official web site and it looks like they removed all Amiga related downloads, so now that I can't rely upon the publisher of this great software, maybe perhaps one of you guys to hook me up?

Ami_GFX 11 December 2011 17:38

I bought a copy of what I think is Photogenics 4 or 5 for the Amiga on eBay around 4 years ago in a lot of Amiga graphics software. The disk was burned on a cheap CD-R and no longer readable. The seller had gotten it directly from Paul Nolan and knew him and tried to get a good copy from him. I finally got in touch with Paul Nolan myself and he wouldn't give me a good copy. All he would do is give me a discount for the PC version of Photogenics. He doesn't seem that interested in the Amiga community these days.

BTW, I still have the disk and if anyone knows any data recovery technics to be able to read it, I'd like to know and I'd be happy to upload the image somewhere. Nothing I have has ever been able to read it.

I have found a 3970kb Photogenics5.lzx file on my old hdd. I can upload it to the zone if it's alright. Don't know if it works or not though.

I have a version 2 CD and also an earlier version on Floppy if any use.

If it's possible to make an image of it, then the disc must still be readable, at least on a sector by sector basis. So if you can do that and upload it somewhere (EAB File Server will do), then I'd be happy to see if I can make sense of the filesystem it contains. :great

Yes, please upload it (whether it works or not!). :)

Uploaded Photogenics 5 and an update. Haven't tried it though.

Cool, getting now, will run home and test this evening.

Everyone: I'm only interested in version 5 or maybe perhaps 4. Versions 1 and 2 are easy to acquire and much to old for my tastes. 4 On the other hand might be doable, but then again, this upload by Fry might just be the solution to all my needs.

Your file may be the same as one included inside the Photogenics 5 archive which fryguy has uploaded to the Zone.

However, if the files don't match exactly, then please upload yours too.

Edit: No, scratch that. Please upload it anyway. :agree

@XDelusion: I've edited the thread's title to match your opening post. :)

I also got version 4.x btw, with updates to 4.3

If Ami_GFX uploads his CD-R image and it turns out to contain Photogenics 4, then I may ask you to upload that too.

I'm getting errors trying to un-archive this - lzx is reporting an error code 10 within mirawizarc in CWB.

The lha archive extracts correctly in WinRAR. As yet, I've only tried extracting the lzx files in Windows (with unlzx.exe), but I'm getting CRC errors on them all! :shocked I'll try the Amiga LZX command line utility tomorrow.

It may be possible to fix them, but that's why I'm still interested in the file ancalimon has found.

Sorry to be misunderstood. I was asking if there was anyone with some data recovery knowedge who had experience with bad CDs. I don't have any image because I haven't been able to read anything off the Photogenics CD. I have no idea what hardware or software could be used.

I'm happy to hear that someone out there has an image of Photogenics 5. I've only got 1.2 and 2.

But to make up for that, I'll upload ADFs of Alpha Paint for the Toaster. I finally got Winuae to read the Amiga zip disk I put it on.

If that is the extent of the problem you have with the disc, then I suspect that nothing can be done. The dye used in all CD-Rs will deteriorate with time, and the cheaper ones even more so.

I bought a CD-R on eBay recently which had gone that way already when I received it. I spent a whole day trying to recover somnething from the disc with all the CD recovery trialware I could download, but it was completely stuffed. eBay eventually refunded my money after I started a dispute with the seller and he insisted that he'd tested the disc before he'd sent it to me! (However he declined to elaborate when I asked him how he'd tested it.)

Don't worry, we'll get Photogenics 5 from that archive one way or another.

Version 5.

XDelusion 12 December 2011 01:45

How in the world did you find that link? I even wrote the company about purchasing a copy for the Amiga and have yet to receive a response.

cronos 12 December 2011 03:26

Thanks Ancalimon, your version works. :)
