A new version of Icaros Desktop is now available for download. This new release includes a work-in-progress version of the VMware SGVA driver, an improved version of EasyRPG Player and many updates to current applications here and there (please see the "new from" section for a full list). Icaros desktop is X86 only, not running on ARM devices

the only ARM based distribution i am aware of is Aeros

Icaros Desktop 2.1.1

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yw6shdT9O...640/212-01.jpg

The second update pack for Icaros Desktop 2.1 has been released. For the first time in the x86 land, an AROS distribution supports Windows 7 (Vista/2008 and upwards) shared folders through SMB handler, but that's not the only big news in the "networking drives department": we also included Norbert Kett's handler for DropBox and a client for AmiCloud and the IndieGO! e-shop. Users of Amiga productivity applications will enjoy the refresh of AROS M68K system files, with a new, faster RTG driver. Last but not least, we also added Mapparium 0.4 to our distribution.

that's a great news !

AROS intrigues me, since it's the only x86 Amiga-like OS, and it's also open source.

However its limited hardware support means I haven't built a dedicated box for it yet, just running it in a VM. It feels a bit silly having to shop for 2005-2008 era components in order to run a "Next-gen" OS. Also I'm no fan of the default color/window theme, but if you switch to something a bit more sane it actually doesn't look bad.

Nice "wanna be windows" desktop. No wonder why people haven't found AROS.

Well this is not so, if supported, ICAROS can natively install on even newer PC, Also an installation on Pen Drive you can, but it is best to use an external hard drive, in this way you can start ICAROS on every PC we want.

I am attaching some interesting old videos:

Did you know that on EROS and can emulate all the old Commodore and Amiga platforms and more, with both emulators native AROS or through an interpreter as Wine on Linux?

Icaros Desktop from RAM Drive (Windows)

Verifica teorica - this video shows a Icaros Desktop virtual machine running from a Windows RAM Drive (yes, there are RAM drives for Windows too...). AROS applications start blazingly fast, even heavier ones like OWB and AmiBridge. How fast would AROS run, in general, if the whole filesystem could be moved to RAM (By Paolone autor Distro IcarOS)
