Where is the score? :) Do we have to find a terminal or something?

Graham Humphrey 23 July 2017 11:00

You can indeed check your score from the terminal. Also it comes up when you die (probably when you get onto the high score table, not sure if it does otherwise - however it's almost certain that you will reach it to start with)

Reached barely third level.

Graham Humphrey 31 July 2017 08:29

Just one EAB score so far (well done el_pasi!) and we're over a week in.

I will hopefully be giving this a bash tonight. We could do with rather more activity for this (and also Arabian Nights too).

The Alien Breed games are not personal favourites but I think this one is the best of the series (not counting AB3D). A classic case of diminishing returns after this instalment from a company who often flattered to deceive anyway.

Found a glitch in level 3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rbPsLLxS6k

At 19:58 you can see I have 60k credits. Then I clear up some more of the level and return to the terminal. At 23:15 you can see I now have 3.5 million credits. After I buy the Laser for 75k I'm back down to 60k credits.
This is 100% reproducible by playing through this level in the same way.

Are we allowed to take advantage of this? If not, how shall we proceed if our account suddenly is this high?

I had the same experience on Deck 6. But when I've tried to repeat the exercise on later attempts it hasn't occurred.

For the record I'd advise we allow it. There's not much we can do about it, and it's not cheating per se.

Nice to see in the video that you accidentally close the blast door with the the high impact laser. That happens to me also and can be a total pain.

^ I think maybe the 48k flamethrower is the best weapon because of that.

Makes sense to me. What do you say, Graham?

Graham Humphrey 04 August 2017 17:59

I am not any sort of expert on this game, but I'd tend to agree with Lines on this one. People are obviously going to do this without meaning or even knowing how to activate it and you clearly don't actually have 3.5M credits anyway, although you do have more than you actually should.

john4p 04 August 2017 21:22

Okay. Didn't force the glitch to appear this time on purpose, but in deck 7 my account still showed 5M at one point. Looked for the exit to be able to get there after defeating the boss but that led to me being cut off because there's a trench that you can only leave in the exit direction. So I had to die on purpose to get this:

Yeh the trenches are a bitch when you are dashing to the exit.
on some levels I found it incredibly easy to navigate to the exit. On others it was a bind.

Haven't played this yet... I guess I won't finish it.
How many levels are there?

UPDATE:

I gave it a go: 126700

I died at deck 4... the game is quite fun but I actually didn't understand very well what to do and if there is some strategy to follow... :)

I just killed all the aliens I faced and quickly found the exit when lights turned red... :laughing

I think that I can do better... hope to find some time to play it.

That's the problem with this game. It's like they totally gave up bothering with the story/mission element.

I'm interested in playing ABII to see if that improves on this...

Got to the ninth level. That one's just unfair.

I found them all easy except on the 7th deck. Have to memorize the path before fighting against the boss.
Well, and the 2-3 seconds run in deck 6 is extremely tight.

It does - but AB1's atmosphere is completely gone. AB2 feels like pure action.

Got to the final level with five lives and lots of keys - still couldn't find the boss before being killed.

john4p 08 August 2017 22:54

Pretty sure I've reached the room where the final battle takes place:

But got stuck in the wall meaning 1.5 hours wasted.

Yeh, I was a little pissed off at that. I've not played ABII, I wonder if that has a more story focused ending.
