Thanks Roondar...

Running from harddrive is going to be a problem because I don't have enough RAM to hold all of the background levels and round maps.... so after each round I need to bring in those assets at the temple scene while the system is down.

I guess it means someone needs to write a slave or something.

Any ram ideas where I can get more during start up is most welcome.

I have about 200Kb of ram left and I need to get the music and sfx in.

I'm for two setup:
1) bare A1200 and system destroyed
2) HDD+fastmem and preload

EDIT: anyway you can detect if you have booted from floppy and if fastmem detected use it to cache data and speed up loading phases.
Have you estimated how many compressed data it is?

1) It broke your system???????? :confused

I never tested it with any fast ram... there' a good chance it would screw up.

Mine was a proposal for a single final exe with a double behavior:
1) floppy start -> system takeover and full memory usage
2) hdd start -> fast memory required but preload of data
Sorry for my lame English ;)

Hewitson 21 December 2018 11:06

My advice would be to forget the floppy option and make a HD and fast ram a requirement for the game. It's 2018 for christ's sake.

No, it doesn't :) Tested on accelerated amiga with fast ram

Congrats! Outstanding work.

This is an interesting thought, but I have to go with the lowest config A1200 and that means 2mb chip... which then means I'm loading from floppy to get the maximum amount of ram.

If people want to write a slave then I'll happily support it but the compo rules state I have to supply a disk image.

Geezer

Not exactly correct, read the last sentence:

Quote:

Submissions must be in the form of a disk image (or images) playable on both emulated and real hardware, according to the stated target hardware configuration. Instructions, etc, to be provided as necessary, as determined by the submitter. An archive in a standard format (eg lha) suitable for harddisk installation is also acceptable.
...but probably best to stick with a stock A1200 if you can ;)

You'll need a stock A1200 config...Happy xmas and enjoy
Geezer :)

Edit - quick note, if you do run it you need to press the fire button when the files have unpacked in the shell window.

You are awesome! So do you already have ideas for your next project?

Ughhh... oh well... If I have time I'll do an HD version... I can't see it taking too much time to do given most people have oodles of Fast Ram.

Next project? I'll let u know when I finish this one. I have some work commitments but I fancy doing a game based on John Wick/Hotline Miami... something like that.

I'm also giving serious thought to renaming this title to "RIGAR" and offering a limited edition boxed copy. Thoughts are welcome?

Personally I think this is a bad idea; sent you a PM explaining why.

Retro-Nerd 21 December 2018 17:14

It's an active brand. So, selling an unlicensed game would be a potential risk.

How can someone in the iOS Appstore get away with selling a game called "BombJacke" for £1.99. It's been there for at least a year and is a complete rip of the arcade.

Retro-Nerd 21 December 2018 17:30

That's not a good point, really. Yes, he maybe gets away with it. But why take a potential risk? A boxed Amiga game will get some coverage on the usual retro sites. And retro is still big thing at the moment. Sam's Journey e.g. for the C64 got even news on main stream media. :)

Yeah fair points.
This is what happens to me at xmas, I start to think about crazy shit. :D

saimon69 21 December 2018 20:46

Sometimes it takes just a darn fanboy to have an app removed (hopefully provisionally): that's what happened today to Rockbot - is a megaman fan game, is freeware, open source and all assets are original (including the music, since is mine) BUT someone seemingly got offended by its own existence :/

Thank you Trolls (only not)

The windows and linux versions plus the source code are still available, and seems portable on NG systems that use sdl library, though.

Foul 22 December 2018 00:11

suggestion: make a box version of Rygar exactly like a real vintage game and distribute / sell it discreetly to the EAB members :bowdown

And maybe release a public Adf version just after..

Arnie 22 December 2018 18:51

*sigh*
I can't get the testdisk to load in winUAE (latest version).
It stops loading at the point of trying to load RyFont8x8Time1.RNC for the second time (after loading letsfight32mask.RNC).

The floppy drive is stuck on 06 (greyed out).
I'm using the quick start A1200. Tried both the 3.0 & 3.1 kick start.

Any suggestions?

DamienD 22 December 2018 18:58

That's very weird Arnie; works fine here using WinUAE 4.1.0 with a standard A1200 Quickstart and everything unpacks correctly:

Edit: ah I forgot, you need to press the fire button now as per mcgeezer's post:
