Need Measurement for A1200 mobo with Mediator and BPPC
I'm currently eyeing up some HTPC cases for my miggy and I've found one that is very close to the look of the CDTV case and very much has an Amiga feel to it.
http://images.productwiki.com/upload...se-400-400.jpg I want it to be able to take a future Mediator purchase, but as i dont have one, I don't know the overall length of the a1200 mobo with BPPC and mediator. I know this unit isn't tall enough for standard 90 degree pci slots, but one of these: http://cartft.com/image_db/risercard.jpg might land the cards close to the horizontal pci slots at the back (with PSU relocated): http://images.productwiki.com/upload..._1-400-400.jpg Can someone please enlighten me with a precise measurement in millimetres? |
i actually have one of those pci adaptors, the problem you will encounter is it will only work as one slot.
may i suggest a pci extender instead.thatway you can have it anywhere within reach of the cable to align it up. |
I did wonder, thanks for that Roy
so one of these? http://www.logicsupply.com/images/ph...j_pic1_big.jpg or two of these? http://www.logicsupply.com/images/ph...LEXPCI_big.jpg |
two of the bottom ones should be good :)
the reason why the double ones dont work is because they alocate the slot somewhere else(to add a second one) and the mediator wont allow it ive tried. if fitzsteve comes on and sees this,he should be able to give you a measurement of total length with a mediator installed.he has one with a bppc. |
awesome, thanks :D
I guess the extra benefit of the ribbon cable means i can have the pci cards stick further rearward than the 1200 mobo connectors, saving me drilling out the back of the case, and allowing me to relocate the rear sockets to where the mini ATX ports would go with a custom aluminium faceplate. my mobo with BPPC measures 406mm in overall length, the case EXTERNAL width is 435mm. just wondering if adding a mediator will push the overall length of the electronics too wide for the case. |
i have a mediator,i could measure the passthrough connector for you and then just add on the difference,if thats ok?
ive measured the mediators passthrough, when connected up the mediator adds on an extra 18mm max to the setup in length. |
sure
dont forget to consider how far an accelerator will push into the passthrough which reduces the overal length when connected, if you know what i mean :D i have to be sure as this case is £150 :shocked |
done, check post six.
wow, thats alot of wonga for a case.but still it will look cool. |
crikey, that leaves 11mm... so if the case metal thickness is say 2mm (being over cautious), then we're down to 7mm, or 3.5mm of give on either side :shocked
this is presuming i can actually angle the motherboard in sufficiently for it to pass the corner mouldings when fitting it! thanks for measuring mate :great time to save up 150 quid! :spin |
yeah it's alot, but it's a Lian Li case, so it's money well spent :great
|
good luck,i like these projects alot.keep us posted with pics:)

will do :great
i really wanted to keep the miggy in its wedge but as time goes on i'm realising more and more that its just too restrictive. I also HATE the look of the towers for amigas. when i found this case i immediately thought "oooh that looks similar to a CDTV" :D I love the CDTV's but they're both rare, expensive and not as upgradeable or powerful so this seemed a logical step to take. thanks again for the help and if fitzsteve can give me a much more definitive measurement i'd be very grateful and will make my purchase right away (although it's already looking like it'll fit!) |
Introducing, the Amiga CD1200! (or at least my vision of it in this photoshopped image :P)

well, i dived in and bought the Lian Li HTPC case on credit. LOL. I can always send it back if I later find it doesn't fit with the Mediator :)
|
what ever you do,youll still be making a custom backplate.(to move the psu a bit and move the pci slots to a more convenient place)
still its all good, hows your metalwork skills lol. it looks like a lot of work but oh so worth it if you pull it off. i like what you did there with the mockup pic,if only you could get that on the xcase for real.it would be awsome. |
I'm lucky enough to have a garage full of machining tools, granted it's for woodworking, but tools like my fretsaw and drill press / pillar drill can easily deal with aluminium. my lathe is an 1 tonne 3m wide copy lathe which i can switch the cutting tools to metal if i so need. doubt i'll need my bandsaw though :laughing i have a router table too but it's not CnC capable.... yet :p
the PSU i think will fit nicely behind the Amiga logo. I'll cut out the side vent there and relocate it to the hole left behind with either rivets or a custom made backplate. as case mods go i think this'll be pretty easy to be honest. :great the motherboard wont touch the backplate. i'll just make some extension cables with ribbons to a backplate with push fit connectors. if you can imagine the mobo backplate being about 15mm from the mobo, with plug in connectors and ribbons with sockets going to the mini ATX backplate part. it's easy enough. no soldering to the mainboard and easy disconnect for replacement/removal. oh and as for the chrome Amiga and commodore logo, that's the easy part :P |
nice project mate will be keeping an eye on this
plenty of pics please |
What a great idea! :bowdown I'm looking forward to seeing this one in the making! :agree
Best of luck with your Amiga CD1200 project, diablo! :great |
Yes, it looks really good ;)
|
Thanks folks :D
will be about a week before I receive the case. I ordered my replacement PSU (my current DIY PSU has died) from Amigakit before buying this, so i'm hoping it'll fit. if not then it'll do as a spare and i'll send off the PSU included with this case for conversion if needed. at first glance, it doesn't look like much work for what i have in mind. but you know how it goes... this'll be another one of my "never ending projects" :laughing |
