Open source AmigaOS clone for i386 computers. This is a great and cheap alternative if you want a modern Amiga like system. There are lots of games and software for this OS. In this AspireOS live-cd I have only included software that are well tested and important to get stared.

Drivers are limited and it might not even boot with your hardware. For a trouble free experience I recommend ACER aspire one 110, 150 or zg5.

This OS can be used for most modern tasks. Media player, web-browser, gfx and audio software are included. Legacy Amiga software like DOpus 5.

This is a ISO file that you can burn to a CD or DVD. After that is done you have a live-CD that you can boot from any i386 hardware with optical drive.

Better punctualize: this is the AROS distro created by Nikosidis for netbooks - in particular ACER ones;

It's only for those few Acer Aspire Ones which have a CD/DVD drive. The majority of them (eg. D255, D270 and various others) don't.

Wouldn't be possible to use Rufus or similar to create bootable usb from iso?
And how fast/slow is Janus UAE? Does it support AGA? HDF?

I do not agree, AspireOS has the same is identical hardware compatibility of IcarOS. I on Acer Aspire One and other PCs i have always both systems installed all AROS distros are based on AROS Nightly Build

At the moment on Windows there are no applications that can write an ISO on USB, but you can do better, or install AROS on USB Device (Pendrive, SD HD external), this can be done by Virtual Machine or Real PC.

Guess I won't know unless I try. And installing on USB not from is better idea for testing. I have a MSI Wind U100.. or was it some other number now I can't remember. Would this distro work on it, and support all the hardware? Or is there some other aros distro that would fully support msi wind?

I think the question was misunderstood. Like RUFUS, I use Easy2Boot. They setup a USB thumbdrive to be able to boot from an iso. Yes, bootable ISO file on the thumb drive can be used to boot the system.

However, I agree with installing to USB if only for the fact that in my experience, a LIVE CD/DVD always seems to work better than an install in SOME (not all) instances, so booting from the ISO or physical media my not give you the same experience as a local installation. Or in this case a USB install.

Some time ago i discussed with the author of RUFUS (as a boy he had used the Amiga 500) to integrate the Distro AROS in his application, but as soon as he saw the Amiga Structure he was impressed and told me he did not know where to start. :sad

No it does not work, as mentioned there are no PC software that can do this with AROS, some time ago i had discussed HERE and HERE on aros-exec.org

I followed every step of that without success. AROS Broadway black screen appears stating it's waiting for bootable media.

- I forgot to mention I tried it on an MSI netbook.

It worked for me on an Asus eePC 904 with USB 2 ports, but did not work on an IdeaPad 300 (USB 2 or USB 3).
P.S. I made another .imgPTN using the blog instructions (700MB) and it did not seem to boot (waiting for boot media).
Since I used 800MB for the first image, I tried again with 800MB and this time it boots OK.
So it seems there needs to be plenty of free space in the partition.
Try again using 800MB for the size.

Played Hermes, nice one, sound works, gfx apparently.

Now I'll have to figure out networking. Would I stand a chance against wi-fi or should I stick the cable better?

OWB doesn't start. When I click on it nothing happens.

I ran this some time ago on my Acer AspireONE. I think it's still on there, so I'll upgrade to this later version.

It does give a great, Amigalike environment to work in. Time to dig out the AspireONE again :)

BTW - I've got the 110 model, without optical drive. Previously I installed with USB stick. It wasn't particularly straightforward, but it installed OK and works fine. I'll see how I get on with this new version.
