Amiga 500 suddenly not loading disks
Hello
I have a standard A500 with 1/2MB RAM expansion. It is about as standard as it comes, thus I load all my software from floppy disks. Suddenly today, it just didnt want to load floppies anymore. No matter what disk I tried, it just made the "drive noise" for 3 ticks and then it popped back to the bootscreen. This is an amiga that has been in daily use for the last 3 months, so its not one I just dug out of the closet. It is in pretty good condition and has never been opened, thus it has the warranty seals still in place. I have made a quick video here to show my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSZjnutv02Y Anyone have any experience with this? |
clean floppy heads, you can use cleaning disk if you do not want to open it

If cleaning the drive heads doesn't help, a faulty CIA 8520 chip may be the cause.

Probably not a CIA if it detects disk changes and steps happily.
One possibility is dried electrolytic caps on the drive motor board. Sometimes replacing those fixes drives that don't read disks. |

AmigaStore.eu sells modded PC floppy drives that can be installed into the Amiga 500. They cut and modded the eject button so it will fit in the Amiga 500. Or you could of course try to repair your drive. |
