Chaos Strikes Back unsupported version
 

Using the Harry/JOTD installer and it doesn't seem to work with my English version which came free in the Psygnosis re-release of Dungeon Master.

Not sure what's different but the one in TOSEC is very different from the pre-installed WHDownload and my one. My version has a map of Europe with the three flags on each country, WHDownload version just shows three flags and mine also has a QUIT button along with the PRISON/RESUME buttons that takes you back to the language select screen.

I've put my version in the zone as a pre-installed WHDLoad but doesn't work as it won't get past the language select, accesses DF0: and so you have to quit. Can this version be supported?

This version might be like the Psygnosis Dungeon Master and have no protection, would be nice if this version could be supported.

Any Chance you could try making adf's from your original Disks and upload them to the zone, would be nice to have these on floppy too if not protected. :)

Version is V3.5 and the disks are still copy protected AFAIK as there is still protection on track 0. Bunged it through X-Copy on DOSCOPY and it gurus after a while on the prison level, error 60 or something.

I've just used " KryoFlux FREE " to make raw copies of my original disks.

I'll upload them into the zone in case anyone wants them.

I've done a quick test and they appear to work in emulation, hopefully they will work 100% ;)

It's been dumped before and is available (non functional) on the DM encyclopedia website. Maybe Meynaf can tell the difference between v3.3 which he's very familiar with?

I can only see " 3.5 English " listed, I also have this 3.5 version with no map screen.

The version I uploaded is " 3.5 English, French, German " with the map.

The only version I see on the DM encyclopedia website with English, French, German is 3.3.

This is why I said I don't think this version is available online. :)

I didn't know a v3.5 existed...
For me v3.3 was the last CSB version.

Anyway i confirm that the "error 60" means copy protection still active.

Can't tell anything from raw dump, btw. I need the files present on disks.
The one on dmweb is indeed english only.
BUT
CSB isn't really multilingual, as the game is but not the utility disk.
Perhaps they just removed that choice.

Look at the files present on disk. Do you have Dungeon.DAT, DungeonF.DAT, DungeonG.DAT ?

Dungeon.DAT, DungeonF.DAT, DungeonG.DAT are on the CSB disk.

Do you want me to copy all the files from the disks with dopus and upload them or make ADF's ? I know this won't help with the protection. :banghead

It won't help with the protection but it can help for preservation.
Well, in fact I'm just curious to see how different this version is to others ;)

Note : the utility disk is normally not protected. Do you confirm it works well ?

The utility disk appears to work fine, as do the raw files I uploaded in Winuae.

Ok so in reality this is an English version. The utility disk isn't multilingual.
If you try to play in French or German it'll fail at some point (you can only visit the Prison).
For me it looks like early 3.5, before they removed the choice.

Maybe they just wanted the release to look the same as the Dungeon Master v3.6 disk ;)

It's the same as the one on dmweb which is english only, like you said that doesn't work due to it being an adf with protection.

Yeah, but then they just made half the work, as dm 3.6 is no longer copy protected but csb 3.5 still is...

Anyway if your goal is merely to play the game, there can be other solutions.

I've got meynaf versions on my Amiga hard drives already. :great

I've also got the original version 3.5 disks that still work so I'm not stuck and unable to play the game.

I just wanted to make back ups of my disks for preservation as these versions don't appear to be available working online.

I have no idea what the changes are in 3.5 from 3.3, they might not even matter. :confused

Like I said, the raw versions that I made with KryoFlux FREE appear to work ok in winuae.

I haven't got any hardware copiers to make ipfs, can the raw files made with KryoFlux be turned into ipf's? then maybe converted to hfe's for the HxC emulator.

I'm pretty sure I've got backups made with the old cyclone dongle but those disks will fail at some point.

Phantomz: I have problems with your raw version 3.5. Can you please make standard adfs of them and put them in the Zone? If it is not too much work I will support them in the WHDLoad install.

I've RAR'd and Zoned an ADF of my CSB 3.5 made using my streams and DTC.

Please put also your Utility Disk as ADF in the Zone.
