Blizzard 1230-IV without MMU and FPU ?

do i really need an FPU and MMU ? whats the card worth without those components ?

killergorilla 10 March 2009 18:59

You can't get one without an MMU.

But I have one without the FPU, and I've never needed the FPU :)

oh, forgot to ask: what type of memory do you recommend to use with the blizzard 1230 IV ?

fc.studio 10 March 2009 19:19

"68030" means with MMU, "68EC030" means no/without MMU.
Blizzard 1230/IV comes with MC68030RC50 cpu, so MMU is included.
FPU could be required for math/reytracing/3d and last high level demo from demo party.

About A1200 accelerator boards perhaps you can find useful my #4 post here:

so, if i would like to run current AGA demos on a 1200, would you recommend getting a 1230 with FPU ?

The ammount of demos I found for 030 that require an FPU is little.
Unless you find a cheap one, don't worry.
If you are worried about very modern demowatching, get an 060!

pardon my ignorance but do you mean the blizzard 1230 vs 1260 or the motorola 030 vs 060 ?

One last question: what about the compatibility of the a1200 to a500 games ? do i need something like a kickrom-changer in order to use kr 1.3 ?

- There were other brands that manufactured boards with Motorola 68060, but the Blizzard 1260 is the most required and expensive, probably because it is the best.
- If you have a hard drive and a simple RAM board you only need WHDLoad shareware software and then you'll be able to install and play from hard drive thousands A500 games without compatible problems.
