Why don't everybody like the CD32 controller..?
I like it,I don't find a problem with it,I find the mega drive controller gives me pain in my left hand(well I do have arthritis in it),one controller I don't like is the PS1/2/3 controllers, hate L2 and R2,your finger slips off the buttons and it way to small for my hands, glad they finally redesigned it.
Don't know what the PS4 one is like never had a PS4..:( Is everybody the same, don't like the CD32 controller..? I can't use a joystick anymore so have to use controllers, easy on my hand. I give it a thumbs up:) And the prices on eBay,£25+ for the controller is ridiculous,The old the Amiga stuff gets the more it is..:( |
I like the design and feel of it a lot, and a lot of others don’t,
but it’s made crappy. All of the buttons and contacts for the D pad are made of PCB and membrane, basically a bunch of old calculator buttons. |
There are many problems with the CD32 controller.
The DPAD is probably the worst of them. First, it does not easily allow to detect what is pressed and thus makes diagonals are to reach. Second, it is flat and these spherical protrusions end up hurting your thumb very quickly. The buttons in general could be better, they are ok but could be much snappier. The shoulder buttons are bad, it is very easy to have them stuck and stop working. All in all it is probably the second worst controller ever shipped as standard in a console since the 16 bit era. ;) |
It feels just as solid as the $2.49 Megadrive pad I bought from China (including postage).

Never used one, but I dislike controllers in general. I prefer keyboards and joysticks.

The "official" CD32 controller is an utter lump of pants - its shocking how spongy, cheap and unresponsive it's d-pad is.
http://media.gdgt.com/img/product/32...r-2kq0-640.jpg ugh... just look at it... my fingers are beginning to ache already! This utter piece of filth is not only uncomfortable to use it will incite excruciating pain in the phalanges if playing for any real duration (>20 minutes) Now.... lets look at the Competition Pro CD32 controller http://a1.amlimg.com/MDVlZGJkYmVmOTE...sucG5nfHx8.jpg The "Offical" Amiga CD32 pad is utter sh!t - save your hard earned money and don't buy it- instead spend your funds on the Competition Pro CD32 pad and this is quite a different animal and one well worth owning on the Amiga / CD32! |
Or use your old original SNES pad with an USB adapter + Rys MK II. Works perfectly fine in full CD32 pad mode (can't feel a big lag there) and it's affordable. :)

Competition Pro CD32 is something that somebody should clone and put to the market :agree

Yup, d-pad broke on both of my controllers, cd32 pad is very flimsy though I like how it felt.

And you must be some kind of warrior to be able to last 20 minutes. When I exhumed my CD32 from the attic this winter I tried playing Digger and could not last more than five minutes before my thumb started to ache! Quote:

Because awful design and poor materials were use to made it. I like idea of playing amiga games with pad, but not with this one.
|
Not all games worked well with a pad, at least to me up to jump platformers only really make sense on a joystick. When porting the games to the CD32 did they make use of the buttons and re-program the games to be console/pad friendly or did the publishers just shove the old title onto a CD and double the price?

Sure its far from ideal and feels cheap, the dpad is rather poor, but it still does the job in alot of games, i think people tend to use any excuse for their poor game playing skills :laughing

I agree to most people here that the original pad is crap, I quickly got myself a competition pro, however those are expensive today, I seen them sell for over 400SEK (about 40 euros) |
