Seriously - Can I get some feedback?
 
Of all the sites that are devoted to the Amiga, I would expect to get a little more feedback for my games (largely Battle Circle) on this one. (I mentioned this long ago - but more vaguely)

While I've had some positive comments - they seem to come from people that merely have looked at the screens or played a cursory game. :banghead

I would rather hear criticism than promises to play or faint praise. [Well actually - I'd rather hear that you liked/loved it/them, if the truth be told ;) ]

I push the issue as I think the game is damn fun; as did my friends at the time when I programmed it.

So I ask you: Can't you take 30-60 minutes to try it?

This is not so much an ego issue as - well - I think that this would be worth your time - Time enjoyed. That was always my goal; not money for the game, rather the hope/desire that I could give back to the Amiga community (which was quite strong back then! :) :( ). How is this a bad thing?

After this I shall let the issue drop if given no reason to persist as I would know that there is no point. 10 years to late.. :nervous

When I posted comments about your games its because I am a huge fan of games in the style of 7 realms, where nothing is as simple as just building a charector and killing x number of bad guys in order to finish the game in under an HOUR.....because games like that only get played once or twice.
Many of todays gamers have been spoilt by GRAPHICS overload and they fail to enter into a game because the BOX isn't flash enough never mind the gameplay once loaded.

Your games appeal to thinkers Turbo2xs & that means your having to pitch your game in a totally different way than someone making yet another Tetris clone ;)

Its harder for you to get feedback because you ave to find your audience rather than waiting for them to come to you, this means that while you still predominently write for Amiga your contact area is shrinking , proportionally to the number of OLD skool fans of the genre on Amiga.

Maybe its time to look at DUAL platform releases , because while your soul belongs to MIGGY your creative side is being stiffled by lack of feedback & acknloedgement

Maybe a LINUX release is NOT such a bad idea after all ? as I would NEVER curse you to the DARK SIDE :lol

what do you think??

I've already given these first three points of feedback before:

1. The scanlines don't look good on your site. They are really just a sacrifice to speed up emulation rather than a visual preference and aren't needed on the website.

2. Game downloads are labelled as ZIPs but are actually RAR format

3. In the RAR the two ADFs are inappropriately named; Battle Circle.adf and Battle.adf. It would be better to name them as 'Game' and 'Data disk' or 'Disk 1' and 'Disk 2'.

The following points are from playing it again over the weekend:

4. It is confusing to have a Prefs button along the top but also a 'right click' screen where there are more prefs (e.g. sound effects off) and a prominent quit button. Bring them all under one section and make it less easy to quit the program.

5. A consistent style or theme is needed. The game opens with a fantasy picture, then moves to space starfields, stuff about a mailbox, magic, pictures of wizards, medieval combat, a casino and a building that looks like a modern hospital!

6. Some of the screens are quite gaudy and I'm not very keen on the black background - it looks quite like an early Ultima game. Not a big issue though as the game isn't so much about flashy graphics...

7. A few typos:
"Greetings Peasent" -> "Greetings peasant"
"You recieve a fine" -> "You receive a fine"

8. I encountered one bug where the game quit with the message "Music bank not found". Sorry, but I don't have any more info about it. There do seem to be a number of bugs in the code.

The game has potential but I think that you need to make it more intuitive and find a theme. Some problems conspire to prevent players from even getting to play the game. The adventure/strategic battle genre can be great (see King's Bounty, for example) but there is still some work to do (I know that you've put a lot of work into it already).

hello,

lots of screenshot but not seen requirements for all games. I have only P96 that mean if no support of P96, I can't test theses games :(

if games for amiga only, why not .lha and real archive.

you can post the informations in news sites also.

BTW, I just after try to launch the game I have downloade d for curiosity ;)

my amiga doesn't understand battlecircle.zip (impossible to decrunch with amiga tools on a real amiga ???

Here's the deal with the .rar as .zip: The website I use doesn't accept the .Rar extension therefore I had to name them as .zip when in fact their .rar. I can fix that by making them actual zips. Lha may not be possible.

When I get time I will work on a revision fixing some of the spelling errors and making the disk order a little clearer.

As for the graphics, While I have a 1200 it is far easier to use UAE to work on the programming but not for the art.

Oh - I cannot play older games without scan lines; viewed side by side, I think scanlines look better. But that's just me.

The site doesn't support RAR? What's that supposed to mean? In case you're referring to them being served as text/plain, why not just add the MIME type to your configuration?

Some hosters are f*cked in the head and don't support certain file types. As for the scanlines, they make low-res games look better, use them in WinUAE myself, and some people prefer them. Try making it an option, so one can choose.

hello,

I have installed battle circle in a HD (all file in all drawer) and launch battle circle from the TV output (I use mediator and voodoo3 on P96).

the game (in amos) claim about a battle assign and I have seen the good old amos requester).

but in a Hardrive world, why having floppy disk and assign ?? (more floppy disk here mainly). all the game can't be in on drawer and work directly (just some libs in libs:) or this game is mainly just for adf and winuae ???
