Superfrog HD coming to PS3 and PS Vita
Team 17 have just announced that they are bringing an HD remake of Superfrog to Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita later this year.
Here's a couple of links verifying the info... http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/1...29485a12000072 http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/...station.com%29 |
And Super Frog HD is coming to PS3. Pretty cool!

Superfrog HD planned for PS3 and Vita
If the picture in this article is anything to go by, I wish they didn't touch it:
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/1...ion-3-and-vita I would also appreciate it if old titles wouldn't be rehashed like this. Think of something new, at least a proper sequel! |

I hope that for gamers that did not played the original game, think that the original character was the first one on the pic and the current gameplay character is the last one :)

The original thread was first posted in the News forum, and Akira wouldn't have been aware of that until it was approved. However, I don't think it's sufficiently amiga-related to merit that. Nevertheless, he should have been aware of the post that TCD referred to. ;)
All threads now merged. Phew! :) |
At first I was excited by this news but now Im thinking about the way recent Amiga reduxes have gone...gulp :rolleyes I dont like this new style of 2D artwork in HD remakes, all the details are sucked out leaving a very generic and dull look, the character is lost...

If Team 17 are content to just live out past glories, it will be no surprise in 5 years to hear that they have gone bankrupt.
Sad. |
It's really quite sad to see such once prominent and industry leading developers like team 17 reduced to farting out these half baked re-makes. What about those canceled Amiga projects they were working on at the very end, why not make them?...

Is Eric Schwartz involved in this?

I just don't see any value appeal for Superfrog in 2013 or any of those 90's derivative mascot characters that were not Sonic The Hedgehog. Even Sonic has burnt out all good will. I'm not opposed to the release in anyway but it just doesn't make any business sense unless they are seriously clutching at straws. |
Well if they come up with an engine and gameplay like, say "Rayman" I think they could earn money with the title (again).
It is not always bad to resurrect old titles, I think the magic here is to resurrect them in a modern way. |
yes, the story here is to not deliver a half-baked version. They must bring in better things so that people says, gosh the new game is great !!!!

As for the game, Rayman Origins is a fantastic reference, but something tells me they are not going to do this game that way. It just feels like one of those poor "HD" versions of the exact same old game. We've seen them plenty. |
In 2008 some german guys started a remake of Superfrog, but it was sadly never finished.
:( even a demo was released. http://www.blitzforum.de/showcase/279/ it won´t work on Windows 7 but fine on WinXP... |
Without trying to sound disrespectful in any way, I'm amazed Team 17 are still in the industry. Back when they were a perfect fit as part of Amiga, their games were hardly brilliant then. Decent and always incredibly polished but on the whole not especially amazing once you strip that away. If they are to continue to rely on their past success then I'd be very surprised if they're around for much longer
I'm curious though to see how well this sells. How well did Putty Squad do on Ps store? |

Or am I missing something? |

Development has been a trainwreck, it got pushed back and I think it changed target platform at least twice (PSP -> PS3 -> now Vita only). Last mail I got from some John (Twiddy?) at System3, back in January: Quote:
