mcgeezer vs PPA

This update is nothing to do with Rygar but instead some of the battles i might get into now and again, if i’m honest i actually enjoy them - make of that what u will.

Most of my friends who know me personally know that i very rarely take any shit, it seems some of the polish (and yes i know u hang around here) over at the ppa have decided to hoy some digital shit at me, remember... it only takes one fucking arsehole to tar everyone so i decided to hoy some of that digital shit back at them.

Anyway... blah blah blah.

This is what happens when i stop coding and go to a caravan with poor internet connectivity.

Here you go.

By quickly browsing the link it appears that some people assimilate an A1200 (AGA) to gfx (and only to that) without seeing the rest of the specifications of the computer (and what it allows to do).
Well, too bad... :rolleyes

Just let them come here on EAB if they want to have news of the game (it will also avoid you misunderstanding due to WEB translators who are not good at all for the double/triple meaning of words). As here everybody will speak in UK, it will be easier for you.

At worst, if some of them are really not happy, they can prove that you are wrong by coding an arcade perfect port on an OCS/ECS configuration, but... :p

By judging the most Polish Amiga games software it would look like a fine Tiertex mess anyway. :D

That's a touch unfair, I've played Worthy and Tanks Furry and they were rather nice games. I'm also looking forward to Alarcity (spelling?), which looks really nice.

Retro-Nerd 19 May 2019 01:20

Maybe, but check older Polish games (from the 90s). Then you know what i've meant.

mcgeezer 19 May 2019 11:53

I thought worthy was coded by alpine9000who is an aussie?? I might be be wrong.

If the members at the ppa asked me why i create so many videos then i would have acted differently and not purposely caused a shit storm over there.

The fact that some of their members cant tell the difference between ocs/ecs and aga is really their problem to educate themselves, for me it is really about bringing all of the key aspects of rygar to the amiga, with the key aspects being game play, the parralax, the music, the graphics. They dont seem to grasp the technical limitations around the amigas and have chose to ignore the 24bit gradients i have put in.

So... why do i create a load of videos?
1) for people following the project to see progress, years later i will likely go back and look at my work also... its like a diary.
2) for me to help identify bugs
3) to help others learn how amiga games are created
4) for the kind messages i receive which keeps me motivated

All straight forward really.

Geezer

You're correct, I am Australian. Did I miss something ?

McGeezer, while I would agree with you mostly regarding the technical side, your behavior over there at ppa was exceptionally rude and IMHO completely inappropriate. While there was a in parts critical discussion about Rygar before, you were the one starting calling people names with a language that would result in a nearly permanent *beeep* on TV (or likely a screen blackout on Apple phones :D), combined with some nice chauvinism ("Another keyboard warrior to add to the polish hall of fame of utter tw*ts list.". There was nothing remotely like that brought up by anyone in that thread before. I am rather impressed that most people there kept calm and tried to return to a civilized discussion, and the mods not even banning you (what would have happened in nearly every other forum I know). In my eyes you should apologize there for the language you used, I'm sure it would be much appreciated.

Anyway, I just comment on this here as you brought the topic up, and those who do not speak polish or want to dig in ppa with a translator should be given the chance to see both sides of the story. Having said that, your work on Rygar is amazing, and your commitment and persistence to overcome all the nasty little obstacles on the way to a complete, polished game is nothing short of impressive.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I am not a user at ppa, in fact I did not even know that forum before.

mcgeezer 19 May 2019 13:06

Look, what i wrote is over there if people want to go and read it.
If people poke me personally, i’ll poke them back.
And absolutely no apology will be given.
If they want to discuss the ins and outs then they know where i am.

Exactly; AlarCity and Worthy are not done by Polish coders / artists...

AlarCity is created by earok (from New Zealand) and Tsak (from Greece).

Worthy is created by alpine9000 (from Australia) and Tsak (from Greece).

Anyway, it shouldn't matter where someone is from... it's the quality of the game that counts :agree

@McGeezer

There are some polish people both on PPA and here. I'm rather positive on Rygar AGA, but sorry to say that but You insulted many people without a reason. I suppose it's "lost in translation" syndrome, please remember that polish language is very hard to translate without proper knowledge (which Google Translator have not).

Don't worry about some sarcastic comments like these about videos, and remember that's not about nationality. Everywhere are nagging and sarcastic people, not only in Poland.

Doubt it, GoogleTranslator is very good in translating Polish to English, see for yourself -> https://translate.googleusercontent....F-cWKQ#m651179

It seems that the author of Rygar spends half the time of the project on making films about the game.
The translation of the post that started the whole thing is spot on (meaning wise).

Does it warrant telling them to "fuck off", "get a life" and call a "low life cretin" is a different story.

Yeah, this is the comment that upset me because it is personal AND my response IS warranted.

I will talk amicably all day about people criticising Rygar’s development, some people make valid points and i take them onboard, some don't and i take no notice but try to explain why.

But when people make pointless personal comments, especially about the precious time i spend developing the game then i will react because i make family sacrifices that at the end of the day they (the gamers) will benefit from by playing the game.

To be clear, judge the game all you like, don’t judge me for how i go about making it because that is my business.

Normal service will resume tomorrow when i’m back home.

Solo Kazuki 19 May 2019 16:48

@Ami

I don't think so. Some of my replies and comments (i can only base on this) after translation sounds more or less different than in polish. And sometimes even little misunderstanding can make big mess.

DamienD 19 May 2019 17:02

I've now read all posts in the PPA forum. Tempers have soared and there are questionable reactions from both sides.

I'm not taking any sides here but lets not drag this thread down (or either forum) and turn this into a "EAB vs PPA" one or "lost in translation" discussion. What's happened has now happened...

We all make mistakes; I know from experience it can be very difficult not to react when someone criticises you or your project... especially when you've worked hard on it for a long period.

Please all, let's move on :agree

Yeah, I thought Worthy was a Polish game because it was sold through amiga.net.pl. Same goes for Alarcity.

Sorry for the confusion!

Tsak 19 May 2019 22:27

@DamienD: Thanks! :great

@Roondar: no prob. I guess association with Amiga.net.pl might confuse some people indeed.

Btw Tanks Furry IS a Polish game. It was made by R3D project, who also recently released Bridge Strike. R3D is (imho) one of the best and most talented new Amiga developer teams the community has. As is also Mcgeezer and his company.

Anyway -> back to Rygar discussion ;)

Docent 19 May 2019 23:22

DamienD: sorry for getting back to this - usually I dont get into such discussions, but this time the situation requires to shed more light on what actually happened.

mcgeezer:
The truth is, that after 18 or so videos, posted in 8 weeks in a thread related to new amiga games (not only Rygar) someone joked that you must spend half of your time making these videos.
You then started to abuse not only this person himself but also other users, who generally were very positive about your game.

Your response is not warranted in any way - was extremely rude, unprofessional and there is no excuse for such behavior. I bet you wouldn't use such words here, do you?
Now you pose yourself as a victim of a criticism of these stupid Poles who know nothing, but it is you who started all this crap.
Show that you have balls and return to ppa forum when your ban expire and apologize those whom you offended, just like adults do.
