ahh so many awesome memories...

Hello!

I was a minor player in the UK demoscene from 89 to 92, joining groups like The Mighty Druids, Rare and finally Ecstasy.

So many treasured teenage memories from that era... endless streams of blue floppy disks in the post, copy parties in London, bitching with other groups (hello Slipstream!), putting out (really rubbish) demos and the rush of achievement :)

I don't have any Amiga gear now, so it's just WinUAE for me. I can't even remember how to use Amiga operating system, never mind assembly code. But like so many of us, it gave me a great start in the IT and web industry.

So I'm here mainly for nostalgia, I guess. And I'm determined to fill the gaps in my demo collection :)

Jason

Hi Jason and welcome to the forum.

I never got beyond the spectrum tape protection removal era, I used to enjoy that and it was a lifetime ago looking back now. I hope some of you memories revive from those days gone by and maybe see you buying a real Amiga to get the real feel and experience again.

All the best,
Allen :)

Hi Jason, and welcome to EAB! :)

Good luck in your quest to fill the gaps in your demo collection. :great

As an erstwhile demo coder yourself, maybe you could help some other members complete their collections. :D

pmc 06 February 2010 22:49

Watcha Bilbo. :)

Whereabouts in London?

You and prowler made demos? Cool. :cool

Which ones guys? I'd love to check out your work. :)

prowler 06 February 2010 22:52

Hey, pmc, I didn't say I'd coded any demos! :p :laughing

pmc 06 February 2010 22:54

LOL. Whooops... Sorry, saw demos and coding, had a rush of blood to the head and read too fast. :D

musojon74 07 February 2010 04:06

hey bilbo, welcome :)

Bilbo 08 February 2010 11:14

Hey thanks all for the nice welcome!

pmc - my first demo is up on Bitworld, but it's embarrassingly lame (cool logo though!): http://bitworld.bitfellas.org/demo.php?id=5518

I can't find the couple of intros I did for Ecstasy, or the independent demos I made around 92. Still living in hope of finding them on the web someday...

DH 08 February 2010 12:06

Hi and welcome to EAB Bilbo :great

Have you tried here for some of those Ecstasy demos http://www.pouet.net/groups.php?which=3189

Please, i need some more infos about the releases you have made. Propably we can find them.
Intros, demos, party releases, 1992? demogroup was Ecstasy?
let me know as much as you can remember about it.

bye bye

pmc 09 February 2010 14:15

@ Bilbo - I checked your intro out - nice and simple and elegant. :)

Where does that alien pic that's in the demo come from? I'm sure I've seen that before somewhere way back in the misty past - I just can't remember where...

Anyway, how about getting back into doing some coding and making a few new old skool intros? \o/

Muzkat 09 February 2010 14:58

Welcome!

Bilbo 11 February 2010 16:02

Hey pmc - thanks for the nice compliment! I vaguely remember ripping the alien pic from some really old image compilation. Don't think it was demoscene art, more like a Photon Paint demonstration or something like that...

Start 68000 coding again? Would be interesting to see if my brain could still handle it :)

Yeah, it's definitely from something like that cos I'm 100% certain that's not the first time I've seen that pic - it's gonna bug me now! :p

Nice one. Drop me a PM if you need a hand getting kickstarted and I'll help you out. :)

Hi Bilbo

I have some of your early work from the Rare days (well i have the disks no idea if they still work 15 years in the attick can do that), I was a member of the Alex's Rare rebirth from all those years ago.

pubzombie 11 February 2010 19:53

Hi Bilbo :)

DH 12 February 2010 00:27

That image you're on about, I've got it stored somewhere on my computer and I believe it's in a folder under the artists name. I've been searching through thousands of Amiga images and I still haven't found it :sad

I'll keep looking even though I look a bit like this :shocked
:laughing

hi Deicidal

Ah that's interesting. I'd quit the scene by then, but I recently saw a Rare rebirth intro. Did anything else get released after that?

DH 16 February 2010 14:43

The artist for that Alien Pic was someone called Mustafa and the piccie was called Pasazer. That's all the info I have I'm afraid... Told you I would find it in my collection of billions of Amiga piccies :D

And I've just found it here http://gfxzone.planet-d.net/personal...a-pasazer.html :rolleyes
