EAB Multi Platform League - Round 12 - Game Vote (MD)

Voting starts now (30.08.2009) and will end next Saturday (05.09.2009) :

- Vote for five games.
- Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt.
- Remember to choose games suitable for competition play. If you don't, then you will get the treat of a PM from me, asking you to change your vote. If you still don't change it your vote will be discounted. If you aren't sure feel free to ask.
- If you vote for games that don't have a scoring system (e.g. racing games), post which game mode to play and how to measure the score. If you don't do that your whole vote is invalid.
- Edited votes will be discounted (unless you are told to edit it, and even then you can only edit the game(s) that aren't suitable) - so think before you post. Also you cannot vote for games that have already been played.

The system you can choose games from for round 12 is : MegaDrive/Genesis

Alread played on the MD :
Castlevania Bloodlines
Gynoug

Gimme all your votes :D

Are beta (but playable) games allowed?

If so,

1) ResQ (I need a reason to resume my play through the game and as it is quite hard and unknown I guess we won't see scores frightening potential newcomers).
2) Sparkster
3) Streets of Rage 3 or Bare Knuckles 3
4) Streets of Rage 2
5) Zero Wing

6) (in case beta games are not allowed) MegaTurrican

In-game, although your projectiles can kill enemies, nothing can interact with your ship (enemy projectiles, lava ball, pikes).

So my guess is that collision detection with the ship had not been implemented[...]

This doesn't sound very "beta" to me... ;)

If you mean unreleased games, that's okay as long as the game is complete. 'Beta' roms aren't allowed though. For the reasons you have given and john has quoted, it's a no-go. Sorry, but that's a tad too experimental ;)

So your new vote would be :

1) Sparkster
2) Streets of Rage 3 or Bare Knuckles 3
3) Streets of Rage 2
4) Zero Wing
5) MegaTurrican

lilalurl 05 September 2009 09:27

Yes but actually, given Jason Backhouse's reply and seeing how the later levels (the post you quoted was written when I first tried the game) are designed I think the ship is meant to be invincible, while you remain vulnerable on foot.

There are several times when you have to try and get out with a very good timing because there are enemy shootings (some with homing missiles) around and only a limited number of places to land on.

Therefore, I still think it should be allowed.

Edit: also the game rom header is 'Rescue Game which is NOT a shoot-em-up', so it is not meant to be played most of the time in the ship ;)

TCD 05 September 2009 09:36

It has a [Beta] and not a [Unl] tag (might be wrong, but I'm not going to investigate that on the last day of the vote) and like I said 'beta' roms aren't allowed. I don't want any discussions about if the game is meant to be like that half way into the round and that's most likely going to happen. That's why I call it 'experimental'. I see your point, but I hope you also see mine and why I can't grant you your wish. Oh and of course that will be included in the next vote thread ;)
So can you confirm your adjusted vote?

lilalurl 05 September 2009 10:00

Yes, no problem, I confirm the adjusted vote.

I was simply arguing about the text quoted by john4p which was no longer relevant.
I guess the game won't ever be labeled unl rather than beta unless either the youtube video poster (linked by s2325) or me finish it and states it is playable from start to beginning, given how lazy s2325 just mentioned the game and never posted anything about his play-through (hint, hint).

TCD 06 September 2009 08:43

Well... just see for yourself ;)

Code:

1. Mega Turrican    8 (3 votes)
2. Streets of Rage 2 8 (2 votes)
3. Splatterhouse 2  5 (1 vote)
3. Sparkster        5 (1 vote)
5. Gunstar Heroes, Universal Soldier, Hellfire & Streets of Rage 3...

Another round of Turrican it is then.

This time I approve of your "democratic" system. :great

With the Super League's system we'd now play Streets of Rage 2.
