pirates! capturing the treasure fleet on high sea

has anyone ever achieved this? it is possible. I remember one time plundering a galleon that carried 30.000 gold. short while later another galleon with 25.000 gold. I didn't know what to think of it until much later I read in a forum that someone plundered 4 gallons worth over 100.000 between 2 towns the treasure fleet was traveling.

don't know if there are any real pirates! fans, but to me this must be the rarest thing to achieve in the game and I know no other place to talk about it :)

If you hit the treasure fleet - and you could do it over and over once you knew the somewhat random schedule - you could pull down as much as 250k gold per hit. Or at least that was my experience.

You can find them times and places when and where the Treasure fleets appear here:

btw. my personal record in Pirates! for points is 151/100 :)

EDIT: Treasure fleets & Silver trains schedule here: http://www.textfiles.com/apple/DOCUMENTATION/pirates

I don't remember how much I got from either the Treasure Fleet or Silver Train, but I remember one of them being much more than the other.

How did you manage to do that well? (That should be the title of Marquis.)

I think I only managed to get 72/100 and that includes saving all my family and get the Inca treasure.

The best title is Prince and you'll need 180/100. The max is 260/100.

Bamiga2002 15 December 2012 09:16

The title was king's advisor IIRC. I got there with much plundering, marrying "best" wife in the game and finding the pirate treasures with only one piece of a map. And also by selecting speciality "medicine". That way (and avoiding sword hits) you can continue your pirate career as long as possible.

demoniac 16 December 2012 06:30

You get the title of King's Advisor on the list, but the text says something like, "The king of England has issued you the title of <rank> and all the rights..." when points is at least 95/100.

The rank could be Baron, Count, Marquis, Duke, or Prince.

How many family members did you save?

Bamiga2002 16 December 2012 10:04

The title came when I ended the game. I can't remember the amount of family members...:confused

No, I got all 4 and I didn't get King's Advisor. I am pretty sure I studied medicine and got the best wife.

Bamiga2002, what difficulty did you pick?

Emu Amiga 18 December 2012 10:51

My greatest achievement was attacking Panama right after a plauge struck down the local population. I scored over 600,000 gold. Ah, what a great game. I'm glad Sid Meier remade this game a few years back.

always pick the highest difficulty. that way you get 20% of all the loot everytime you divide the plunder. while on easiest it is only 5%. money is very important for score.

do you, or anyone else know how to prevent the citiy from receiving warning of your approach? with me they always hide all their gold.

panama is the wealthiest city all the time. I always try to take it more towards the end of the game when they are literally bathing in money.

HansKisaragi 27 December 2012 11:17

Oh boy.. this made me fire up Amiga Forever and pop in the pirates disk again. Have not played it in years.

I think I started with journeyman but after each plunder share I advanced all the way to swashbuckler.

Ah, I see. I stopped playing the hardest difficulty as the winds kept blowing me all over the place. I figured I needed control to save family members and find treasures.

I don't know the answer to this, but maybe not attack any ships before attacking the port?

gjb1985 05 March 2013 21:06

I don't know about not attacking ships before a port. I often don't encounter ships before a port.

demoniac 07 March 2013 20:34

Also maybe try leaving most of your fleet behind when attacking a port to reduce warning?

gjb1985 08 March 2013 14:06

how can you leave your fleet behind?

demoniac 09 March 2013 04:39

It's been a while since I last played this game, but I think you can separate part of your fleet by anchoring them on an island or maybe even in the sea. I don't have the USB controller handy, otherwise I would test it out for you.

ivansc 22 March 2013 12:05

I lost my original Pirates! package including the disk and the crucial map to a wife-induced clearout years ago.
Rebought it recently for the PC but sadly no map or instructions included in the remake, which had fancier GFX but the gameplay wasn't as good. It also struggled on WIn7 so now I am on Win8 I suspect I have no chance
