Top ten Amiga platform games?

Because it's fun to see what other people like, you know?

Anyway, here are mine:

1. Flashback

2. Yo! Joe!

3. Lionheart

4. Benefactor

5. Ruff 'n' Tumble

6. Turrican II

7. Alien Fish Finger

8. Arabian Nights

9. Bubba 'n' Stix

10. Nicky Boum

Discussion and off-topic ramblings are encouraged.

Raggot 18 September 2010 19:18

Never mind, then.

Retro-Nerd 18 September 2010 19:22

Well, we had some threads about Amiga platformer, even a poll. Just use the search function. :)

Fabie 18 September 2010 21:01

benefactor is not a platform game...it is a puzzle game
all the others are action games except Nicky boom

s2325 18 September 2010 21:06

Sometimes genres are mixed.

I'd disagree there..
It's a guy running around on platforms and he's also solving puzzles.
Sounds like a platform game with puzzles.. Since your basic interface to the game is the guy on the platforms, I'd say that qualifies.

I have no idea what you mean by the last part..
How can you have a platform game without it being some kind of action game?

Is there some generally accepted definition somewhere where games like Leander and the others aren't considered platform games?

I considers platform games something like Nicky boom, fire & ice,Pinkie, zool, doddle bug, oscar, trolls,mr nutz, puggsy,bc kid, james pond seres and many others

but the definition comes always with trivia

lilalurl 18 September 2010 21:55

Since this is going a bit off-topic, here is a link to a thread at Mobygames called Platform puzzle game recommendations?

Zetr0 18 September 2010 22:09

Top 10 is quite simple - (in no particular order)
  • 1. FlashBack
    2. Turrican 2
    3. Lost Vikings
    4. Super Methan Bros.
    5. Lion Heart
    6. Aladdin
    7. Alien 3
    8. Assasin Special Edition
    9. Benfactor
    10. Shadow of the Beast 2

honary mentions to
  • Bubba 'n Stix
  • Brian the Lion
  • Chuck Rock
  • Fire 'n Ice
  • Ghost 'n Ghouls
  • Ghost 'n Goblins

of course the list will go on... theres some fine titles IMHO - and there is som exualted crap - like GOD's -- nice intro - shame about the suposed game attached to the end of it.

TCD 18 September 2010 22:12

Anybody listing Flashback as a platformer didn't get it. Full stop :p

rockersuke 18 September 2010 22:13

I was going to mention Blues Brothers as one of my all-time-favourite platform games... but someone could object it's not actually a platform game but a musical film adaptation, so I won't. :p :p :p

Haha!

TCD 18 September 2010 22:51

No worries Dast. At least he didn't list SUPERFROG :p

Paul_s 18 September 2010 22:52

What is wrong with you people, Superfrog is a damn fine game! Shame on you :p

TCD 18 September 2010 22:54

Hey, *I* like it :cheese Proof : http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=42078
There, now Dast will hate me :nervous Thanks for that Paul! :crying

Paul_s 18 September 2010 23:00

:lol Maybe I should be turned into a frog for my outburst (do mods have that power?). Sorry, Dastardly already put me in a bad mood about Superfrog many threads ago. My anger has been re-ignited like some age old Amiga vs. Atari ST battle!

I'm going to sneak into Dastardly's house and fill every fluid bottle I can find with Lucozade. Even his toilet/shower will flow Lucozade for EVER! muahahahaha :D

Fabie 18 September 2010 23:28

anyways here is top5 list

Alladin
Fire + ice cd32
superfrog
BCKID
brian the lion AGA

Dastardly 18 September 2010 23:58

Hah, I don't hate Superfrog. I just find it very dull and uninteresting :)

Same goes for Lucozade!

Raggot 19 September 2010 06:17

And it seems that my thread wasn't such a failure after all! :D BTW, I put Alien Fish Finger on my list; I'd completely forgotten about it.

I apologize in advance for any excessive quoting. It's a bad habit of mine.

No top tens, though. What can I say? I like lists.

What? If it has running, jumping, and platforms, it's a platform game! Adding features doesn't negate that!

THANK YOU. Honestly, people get so hung up on the cool concepts and puzzles and stuff that they forgive it for playing like crap. And it has ugly ST scrolling, too. At least it isn't as bad as Magic Pockets. God, what an awful game that was.

Excuse me while I move Flashback from my "Platform games" folder to my "Rotoscoped action-adventure-shooting-stealth games with RPG elements that just happen to feature running, jumping, and platforms" folder. All joking aside, how can a game with said elements not be a platform game? Don't give me any crap about the emphasis being on the puzzles or anything, because there's loads of other stuff, and because literally every platform game ever made has something besides the underlying platform structure. I suppose that Brian the Lion isn't a platform game either? I mean, you can punch enemies, like in a beat-em-up, right? Therefore, it isn't a platform game, and anyone who says that it is has missed the point completely.

...I apologize for the rant. I didn't intend for it to turn out like that. :(

Eww. No. It isn't even on the level of Bubsy the Bobcat.

...I think that I just reposted the whole thread. :banghead
