Kipper2k A500 ide questions

After around 3 years of not doing any thing with it I tried installing my kipper2k ide 8mb board in an a500 yesterday.

After a lot of swearing and frequent reseating of the board I finally got it to boot.

I have a gotek with wb 3.1 and ks 3.1 is in the a500 rom.

Wb shows I now have 8mb of fast ram :spin

BUT I tried to use hdtools and got nowhere. It appears that the ide is not there. I have a cf to sd adapter in the cf slot with a 2gb sd card in it. Do I need to do anything to the sd card before the amiga will see it? Or will I need to get a cf card to make this work?

Do you have the two wires connecting to your motherboard?
INT2 and OVR.

I have soldered the header to the main board as per the instructions. My soldering is not great but it appears to be firmly attached.

I could test for continuity if it's critical?

A quick update. I tested the soldered header and they test ok for continuity back to kippers board.

I have on old 512mb cf card that I'll try tommorrow.

Another update.

It would appear the board did not like my cf to sd card arrangement. The old 128MB(!) CF card however works a treat!

Now have workbench installed, which is nice.

One thing that keeps happening is that the board needs reseating quite a lot. Anyone found a solution to keep the board in place better?

Sounds like you need a fresh 68k socket on your A500.
Not had any trouble in my A2000.

yeah replace the DIP64 socket on motherboard. the pins on the bottom side of the kipper board (or any other similar add-in board) are thicker than chip legs so you can only put it in and out a few times then the socket opens up and needs to be replaced. the idea is you put the kipper board in then just leave it alone.
